Any chance getting a hold of either an M10R or SL2?

Sorry Joel,
3 lenses per focal length is the max you can have.

For some of us, the Voigtlander 50mm f/2 APO Lanthar for E mount is our only 50mm

They should be making lenses with built in hoods.

No. The E mount 50mm APO Lanthar uses almost its entire barrel length for a slim grip to mount the lens, a large focus ring, an aperture ring, and a label ring that doubles as the control to declick the aperture. There is no "slack space" to fit a built in hood.

If you tried to put a built in hood in there you'd either have to make the lens considerably longer, or you'd have to make some of those rings indirect in some way to fit the hood in. That would make the lens heavier, possibly bigger, and probably more fragile. I like this lens small, relatively light, and solid.

A built in hood is practical on a longer lens like a 75mm or a 90mm, where there is room. Not here.

My 50mm Summicron begs to differ.

Can you borrow an M camera or are you getting an M10-R now that your M10 is gone?

Hi Joel,
I'm thinking about picking up the new 10R but now Fuji got me confused.

Yesterday evening I received a notice from the supplier "Voigtlander APO-Lanthar 50 mm F/2.0 VM black available now". Ordered it immediately, and the postman delivered it an hour ago.

First indications: good coupling with the M10 rangefinder, and no focus shift that hampers perfect focus stopped down. Sigh...

Should there be any debate at all? Perfect landscape cam!

Interesting review from someone who is a Voigtlander ambassador. But I can't tell if she is an official one, or for a business/distributor?
Of note, this is comparing the Sony mount Apo, not M mount, but I include it as it compares it to the basic Leica Summicron 50.
Methodology seems a bit, how should we, say, basic? But still.

Stephen is a dealer for Voigtlander. I've done business with him and he is a good citizen.

I'm getting my copy from the Feb 5th shipment and will post a detailed review and comparison to the Zeiss Planar 50/2 ZM as soon as I get it.

Got mine the other day. Very sharp - no surprise. Easy to focus, good lens. Higher contrast than my 50 Summilux ASPH. About the same size when mounted on camera. I suspect this is going to be a very popular 50 for M mount. This and the new 50/1.5.

I got mine the other day. I’ve only used it for messing around photos, but it’s really really good. I can see it being a standard daily carry lens even though it’s slightly larger than my Lux v2. It feels fantastically built. Sharpness is REALLY good even wide open and bokeh seems pretty smooth and neutral (though I haven’t tested this with anything like foliage). Overall I’m really impressed by it so far.

Got it Thursday! Mine is well centered and crazy sharp to the corners on an M10-R. I do the "Fred Miranda" test handheld at infinity overlooking the city from a mountain road pull out. It appears (from memory) to be comparable for this test, to the E Mount version on a A7RIV (now sold) and my SL 50 Summicron on SL2, will compare all three later. The designs are a bit different between E Mount and M mount (different glass spec). I got green fringing on some out of focus chainlink fence behind the subject, but I have not tested for that specifically.

On this body, my infinity best focus is a tiny tiny bit before the stop. Not as much as the E Mount was. I need to try it on other bodies and at other distances with the Visoflex to check calibration. But photos seem in focus so far!

Can't wait! If this turns out similar performance on the A7RIV, then I may just pick up this version since I can use it on multiple systems.

Can you show what it looks like on your camera vs your Summilux? Size matters to me with RF cameras, and what I really like about the current Summicron (non APO) is it is tiny as well as great image quality.
I have a Zeiss ZM 35 1.4 Distagon which optically is fantastic but I hardly ever use it as I hate its size. The Voigtlander is 'only' an F2 lens, so it is a bit of a bummer to me if it is bigger than my Summilux Asph 50.

Yeah I’ll try to take some pictures. It’s basically the same size. Maybe a hair wider and a hair shorter. Feels lighter.

I do NOT like big lenses and my 50 Summilux is about as big as it gets, other than a 90 Summicron which I don’t really carry around. For me, the VM APO is acceptable.
