Gah, I really dislike Leica's built-in hoods because they don't lock solidly when extended or retracted. I put step rings on the 50 Lux ASPH and 90AA to keep the hoods from moving around whenever I handle the lenses/transfer from the bag to the camera and back, etc. and just use cheap screw in hoods with better depth/effectiveness than the too-short built-in ones, when I need one.

From the MTF, it seems the CV 50 APO is sharper than Leica 50 APO across the frame!

One should be very cautious about comparing MTFs across manufacturers. Different assumptions and/or testings methods can easily lead to misleading interpretations.

Yes, great lens, but I'm not sure I believe those MTFs.
I really like the Loxia hoods because they are small in diameter (except I use the 50 hood on my 85), reversible, and they work to actually shade the lens, and mine never fall off. I also like the screw on contemporary Leica M hoods because they work well for shading and they are small and they have slip on caps (pinch caps are a pain, even the good Canon and Nikon ones!). My favorites are the 2.4 Summarits. The vented retro hoods are not ideal in my opinion because they increase the girth of the lens and don't really work well as a shade.

Cosina hasn't announced the specific release date for Japan yet, but it is expected to ship in January (at least in Japan), probably close to end of January. They might be announcing the release date pretty soon now. Japan businesses were mostly closed due to New Year Holidays until this week.

Today Cosina announced the official release date (for Japan) on their website: 1/27. Other markets will probably get it very close to the same date as usual.

Just got an email from cameraquest saying that my preorder won't arrive until mid-February since the first shipment of lenses won't cover all of the preorders. Unsurprisingly, it's a very popular lens.

In 2020 Cosina have signalled a reversion to being primarily a Leica M lens maker, with just the two macros in Sony E mount only. The M users get the 50/1.5, the 50/3.5 and the 75/1.5 for themselves alone, with no Sony equivalents. All are very much character lenses, which Cosina associates more with Leica M use.
The 110mm was a modern revival of the 125/2.5 from 2004, leaving only the 65/2 as 'our' Voigtlander lens. We just got lucky getting the Leica-intended designs plus the limited scope heavy macros; they have made the decision about their 'back to the future' direction, going into the 20s.
The chances of more Sony E lenses from them just receded significantly (IMO), either in the form of high end wide angles, portrait telephotos or conversions of, for example, the 75/1.5. And the SE f1.2 lenses for Sony look more like Sigma lenses, while the M versions retain the traditional crafted scallop designs.
Fun to speculate - while it lasted. It could herald the finish of high end, right-sized manual focus lenses for Sony users, also seen in the zombie status Loxia line. The siren song of autofocus is overwhelming. A shame....Show more →
I doubt that very much. Sony E lenses remain important to Voigtlander.

I didn’t get offered a free hood, though I got the same email about the Jan shipment being sold out. Are you certain about the offer?
