What is your impression of the subjective points, colors and bokeh?
Sample pictures would be appreciated if you don't mind.
I just added two images of an update I did today, see later post. I don't have all photos here, so only a close-distance shot, not infinity. Most important for me is flaring, since we use the lens at portrait distances. When using the lens which Sony loaned us with the A1 for testing (my wife to be specific), the difference in flare performance was the most significant diference. Strong central rainbow flare in the Sigma, only a minor one in the Sony. I like the colors. The Sigma is a bit smoother in rendering.
Field curvature is pronounced. In one image, looking at infinity the Sony was much sharper. But a close by tree in the Sigma was sharp instead, indicating the field curvature for me.

I added two screenshots of the right side of an image to demonstrate the difference. You can see the reference image to the left and where the 100% zoom was taken from. In the first you see the SonyGM to be sharper, looking at the same focus plane I focused on in the center.
In the second screenshot I included a tree standing 20m in front of the focus plane. The Sigma renders it much sharper than the Sony. https://uni-siegen.sciebo.de/s/egq68fn4DakDyj4
Edit:
Included a screenshot, where I focused on the corner region directly. You can see, sharpness is very close now.

I did a quick test today. Luckily my lens is perfectly centered. So far I haven't heard or read of any 35GM which is significantly decentered. Maybe Sony has improved their QC (or production process). Compared to the 1.8/35 the resolution of fine details is much better, both center and corner, wide open and stopped down. AF feels slightly slower compared to the 1.8/35 but is still fast enough.
Wide-open the 35GM has an unusual FC behavior. About 95% of the FoV is nearly flat field, just the extreme corners are curved. If you focus directly at the extreme corners they get sharp and the rest of the image is then slightly unsharp (at f/1.4). Stopped down to f/2.0 this is not visible anymore and in real life, this shouldn't matter at all. I would rather take a lens with 95% flat field behavior and stronger field curvature in the extreme corners than a lens with medium FC over the whole field of view.

I think your photo was the last straw. Awesome example and photo. I have the Sigma 35mm F2 but am going to go ahead and order the 35mm GM. Might be six months before I receive it but better six months from today than tomorrow.

Thanks bud.
My latest thoughts are
Lawao 14mm. Have it
Sony 20 1.8 have it
Sony 35 1.2 buy it as my only 35
Sigma 65 buy it
Sigma 105 Have it
Sell Sony 35 1.8 and Samyang 75mm
I was going to get the Sigma 28-70 but I still hate zooms. I think I may pass on it. If I do this than I’m really hoping the 35 1.2 is a rendering queen

Definitely get the GM 35 F1.4 You will for sure not be able to sleep if you don't. The new GM 50 F1.2 looks to be another stunner--BUT so is the Sony Zeiss FE 50 F1.4 !

Can you elaborate on your choice of Laowa 14 and Sigma 105? Why did you go for these? Are you happy with Laowa? There is a 15 also i suppose...
By Sony 1.2 you mean GM, which is 1.4 actually. The Sigma is 1.2.

Thank you! I think you will have two very nice 35mm lenses on your hands...I really like the way the smaller sigma renders too. But if I can only justify one right now, it’s going to be the GM. It’s small for what it is, but I still might later be tempted to pick up something like that sigma for a lower profile street lens. Good luck and hope the lens comes sooner rather than later.

Buying one of the few best 35mm lenses ever made is never a bad idea. Such lenses retain value well, they are always going to be useful, and you can expect we are nearing a strong plateau effect on lens development. Famous last words, maybe, but these things are good for 100mp.

Everyday I’m checking this “Sony 35mm 1.4 GM Image Thread”, hoping in vain to see..................Sony 35mm 1.4 GM images.
Ha, I’m not complaining or criticizing the conversation though. I’m just eagerly looking forward to more shooters getting this amazing glass in their hands.

I have not been paying much attention to this lens until yesterday. As most of know I test a lot and many lenses. What caught my eye and I’m still watching it as I really like the look . It’s sharp but does not have a digital imprint on the images like any other modern day lens. It’s very smooth and I like the transition zones. Looking forward to this

I've been kinda itching a new GM and sort of thought about the sigma 40 1.4 that went on sale earlier that I didn't pull trigger on thinking maybe i'll just wait. Well the new 35 and 50 gm are certainly interesting me now. I wouldn't mind a bit lighter setup either Great samples!
