Why do you assume there is a problem with the lens? Given the pandemic I would think that an issue with parts supply would be at least if not more likely than a problem with the lens.

Well it's failure on Sony's part no matter how you slice it. If Sony was going to meet the 15th release date that means the first batch had to be made already and would be in transit. I spoke with my guy at my local chain and he had no idea about the delay till I told him today. So if Sony was keeping everyone in the dark including there retailers, well that is a failure in my opinion. Also If they did produce a first batch that is on it's way to stores and discovered an issue now a couple days before release then that is a QC failure. If it's nothing more than a pandemic shortage on parts than why would they just not say that. Sorry, I'm just not buying that one. Supply chain tracking is so easy today. These companies know exactly what they will and will not have way ahead of time and they can track the progress of parts. Unless again they are just poorly managed which very well could be the case here. Either way it doesn't reflect well on Sony as being very competent in any scenario. Not the end of the world but is a let down for sure

GM and Ford both shut down some plants due to semiconductor shortages. I'm sure these huge corporations have great supply chain tracking...but still are down due to shortage. Covid has affected everyone.

Just throwing it out there, maybe it's only the domestic market that's being postponed? Unless we get an English-language announcement at some point.

Lol Sony could be screwing Japanese market again like they did with the PS5 inventory

The delay is interesting. This release is not rushed. The lens was in hands of reviewers already at least on 20th October (based exif in sample shots in lenstip.com / optyczne.pl review and amount of leaves on trees in test pictures).

I have pre-ordered this lens thanks to great reviews. This will be my 5th 35. Others being Samyang 35/1.8, Samyang 35/1.4, Sigma 35/2 i, FE 35/1.8.

Samyang 35/1.4 is my best lens though a bit heavy. May be i will return Sam 1.8 and sell Sony 35/1.8. I will also keep just 1 lens between GM and Sam 35/1.4.

I do have other focal lengths but i always use a 35 or sometimes a 50...so i keep wondering should i sell rest of my lenses

Without knowing the details, I don't think this is really fair. COVID has affected many industries across the globe. We're talking about a lens here, not a vaccine. I think we can exercise patience.

that is REALLY weird as the lens was released in Singapore on 5th Feb and my local store had 10 copies and selling them with the regular discount of listed price.

I cancelled my B&H order for the 35 1.4 GM. Y'all can have mine. I have a decent Loxia 35 2 and don't even use 35mm FL that much. It was dumb for me to have ordered it in the first place. I have a 24 1.4 GM, the Batis 25 2, and the Batis 40 2. I might try the Seven Artisans 28 if I really feel like I just have to have a brief dopamine surge.

Due to China's surging exports there's a crunch on shipping containers which has caused shipping rates to skyrocket. It's only recently that rates have started to trend down. I wouldn't be surprised if Sony management decided to delay the volume shipping to minimize the hit to their margins.

This'll be my first AF 35mm, but also my 5th 35mm.

CV35/1.2 Nokton II, CV35/2.5 Color Skopar, Zeiss/Contax G 35/2 Planar, Zeiss ZM35/1.4.

Up until now, if I needed AF with 35mm, I relied on the Sigma 24-35mm f/2 and the MC-11.

I'm probably going to sell the ZM, as its used price will cover the entire cost, but I want to compare the two first with the ZM on my thin sensor modded camera.

Your right they do and they saw it coming because they have supply chain tracking. So thanks for making my point. It didn't sneak up on them the week before a product launch.

Wyze postponed version 3 of their wifi cameras due to a global shortage of components like silicone. It is possible that there is a break in the supply chain somewhere with the 35 1.4, but given that its basically days before shipment, the first shipment should be done. Unless they wanted to hold back what was produced until they can bring enough supply to market but that doesn't make sense either. See PS5.

These are just weird times with COVID. Supply disruptions due to social distancing and what-not was an issue early in the pandemic. These days there are just too many people locked up at home buying electronics in droves because they have nothing else to look forward to lol.
