Please guys, let's take a step back on the accusations and try to be more objective. I'm sure we will see more comparisons very soon.
Fred - there is only one person making accusations.
That's fine IF you have a factual foundation for it.
You have an amazing community here; don't want it become more like you know what.....

I don't think there's anything fishy going on behind the scenes... it's just that the GM is exceptionally sharp so that when you compare them directly, you get the impression that the Sigma is slightly soft.
Even on the Lego pictures with nearly the same focus point (checked with A7Info) the GM is visibly sharper and the same can be seen at infinity in cameralabs test:

I merely told you what I saw in the samples and posted an example a page or two ago. You feel like anyone who disagrees with you on 35 GM being the best lens ever is out there to destroy the community.
I will end this here and won't fuel your absurdity. Buy a GM or not, I honestly don't care.
None of these 35mm lenses are super corrected for axial CA. Not even the big Sigma.
The best I've seen so far is the Canon 35/1.4L II but rendering is not smooth. There are trade-offs.
Some fringing actually helps rendering. Background foliage with green fringing around the edges helps smooth the edges of specular highlights.
Do we really want clinical super corrected lenses?
I thought the sample was uncropped. The LoCA is really not that bad. Green/Purple fringing is never good for me, to me it just always looks weird.
I use 24Meg bodies so sharpness is not that impt to me. I will probably get one just to play around with it.
To me the things that I am convincing myself of the upgrade is AF and weight.
I took out my 35mm sigma for some AF testing recently with A9 and it works really well though... was looking for an excuse to upgrade.

Hey Guys!
I’m new here, but came across this conversation after seeing some traffic to my website from here! So I am the one who made that last two comparison videos and provided samples for Sigma vs Sony GM. And to be honest my thoughts were exactly the same like yours, coming to conclusion that either:
a) Sony is so much sharper, that it makes Bigma look soft when comparing 100% crops from A7RIV
b) the Sigma lens I got is just a less sharp piece than others. Although I borrowed it from my friend who is Sigma Ambassador, who told me that this is his sharpest lens...
That is why I made additional samples just to make sure that what I achieved in the first place is correct. If you haven’t seen it before there are additional samples to download at the bottom of my page (second button) with comparison between all the 35’s I have - 35/1.8, Zeiss 35/1.4, Sigma 1.2 and Sony GM. Shot with both A7Riii and A7RIV. I provided two samples for each lens - AF and Manual Focus to make sure there are no missed shots.
If I get my hands on another unit, I’m definitely gonna check it out, but for now I’m leaning towards my a) conclusion.
Hope that helps! Glad you guys liked the review, happy to stick around and provide any insights!

Great video and love your style - thanks for sharing!
We will get the 35 GM from Sony for rent following a competition my wife does for Sony Germany (maybe we win even one ;-) ). Looking forward to test it.
One question first: The 35/1.2 has a strong green flare when shooting against the sun, as we often do. Do you have any impressions regarding flares and the 35 GM, you could share?

When you walk in to order the 35mm GM but end up buying a 135mm GM instead. Lol. One of the very few lenses I regretted selling was my previous 135mm GM. The 35mm will come but for me it will be later on.

Not sure if someone linked this already.
I had my preorder in for this lens awhile ago but I have to say the combination of the 35GM and the A7c which is mostly what he used is really tempting. I just hate flippy screens for photos. I think i could live with the EVF because the AF is so good. But man he is making it hard to resist at least buying one to try for a few weeks.

I just picked one up too. I haven’t taken anything special/creative yet, just some product shots for things I’m selling, and holy crap it’s sharp.

Just comparing the 35/1.4 ZA vs 35/1.4 GM's MTFs, it's interesting that the GM does not suffer from the mid-zone resolution dip that I really disliked from the ZA. The more I look at it, the more I like this new GM.

I really like where Sony is taking the GM line starting with the 135mm, 24mm, and this new 35mm. They seem to have made popular engineering trade-offs regarding price, size, weight, sharpness, rendering, AF performance, and correction. Unlike the original GM products Sony now seems more focused in how they want to position this brand similar to Sigma's Art line. I can't wait for the 50mm 1.4 GM and 85mm 1.4 GM mkII.

Wonder if they will be able to make the 50 and 85 Ver ii slightly smaller as well? I'm currently very happy with my tiny Samyang 75mm 1.8 but if they could shrink the 85 alittle I'd be interested in that for sure.
