p.6 #1 · Pre-order: Sony FE 35mm f/1.4 GM ($1,399)
I guess there will be a couple of Sigma's 1.2 up for sale shortly. For me it has always been too heavy and large (family shooter), my 35 1.4 ZA went on every family event and holiday and really delivered on those occasions. I am still on a 24MP body (A7III). If the 35 1.4 GM is quite a bit smaller and lighter than the ZA, I might even reconsider the A7c, for now the haptics and functionality of my ZA with the A7III and the small Sony grip extension is unbeaten. It just feels right in the hands. For the A7c, being a 2000$ body, I was missing the lightweight, small and high-quality primes at normal-wide focal lengths, e.g. a 35 1.8 G with the build & optical quality of the 20mm 1.8 G.

I don’t really like SAR although can’t help myself visiting constantly but in their defence was the a7000 not effectively the a7c? From memory they said the a7000 would be a full frame camera in a a6000 series body and that’s kinda what we got

With SAR, all bets are off. They still bring up the mythical a7000 and a9R every now and then.

No, the a7000 was supposed to be a "professional level" APS-C camera with the body of the a7 or a9 series cameras.

Rumored now by SAR to be only a little bigger than the 24 GM. That would be a revelation if the performance holds. I expected more like the ZA.
I'm skeptical it's only a little bigger than the 24GM but hope this is right.

Probably will be right in-between the 24GM and the 35mm Zeiss. And I'd be OK with that as long as it renders like the 24 Question is what is the price going to be

That would be terrible... for my wallet. Honestly dunno if I want that rumor to be true or not.

The 35/1.4 ZA is still selling for $1600, so I except the new GM to be at least that price. Very likely even more $$.

If the rendering and size are similar to the GM24, I will be selling several lenses in that range. And it will be an all-timer.
But I actually think it’s the opposite as we got the inkling from SAR 😂

Same FL but the Sigma will still be lighter, significantly more compact and 2 or 3 times cheaper depending on how crazy Sony goes on pricing.
But I love that the 35mm segment, and Sigma specifically, will keep Sony honest and market correct a noncompetitive offering snappily.

After the new 12-24mm f/2.8 GM was priced at $3,000, I'm not so sure. That's with Sigma offering something very similar and much cheaper.
I'm hoping for a 35/1.4 lens that has great resolution and superb rendering while being not too big nor too expensive. Too much to ask?

More likely in between the 24 and current 35/1.4.
We use two Sigma f1.2, both great lenses but will try to get one GM as soon as possible to check it against the Sigmas. One Sigma weakness bothering us (apart from weight) is the flare control. It is prone to strong flares when shooting against the sun. That alone would be a reason to get the GM if it were to perform better in that respect (and still be sharp).

I would guess $1,600-ish...but that’s what the ZA 35 1.4 goes for...I am confused how they will price it. The GM 24 was only $1,400. The Sigma 35/1.2 is $1,500. The FE 35/1.8 is $700 and overpriced IMO.
I am guessing $1,800. What do you think?
Edit: that feels optimistic...probably more like 2.1k

Agreed, it's just that 24GM is the perfect fit on A7III for me, so if the rumoured 35GM is indeed close in size I might not feel the need to have anything smaller ...

That's what I came in here to say. Looks like a 1799$ sticker price if I've ever seen one, maybe $1899 if they are greedy.

If they don't discontinue the ZA, it sounds about right. $1800-1900.
