Preordered the 35 GM

And the rumored 16 GM

If Voigtlander releases a 28 APO we’re in even more trouble.

Expensive year 😇

From what I've seen the bokeh has looked really good to me. Sharpness I'm not worried about either. The good thing about You tube is people need clicks to make money. The best way for someone to differentiate themselves to get clicks is talking about any flaws (like bokeh) when everyone is raving about a lens. We have not seen any of that. So I look at that as a positive from the you tube crowd even though there are only a very few I take seriously. It's looking as good as I hoped, not worried. It's really the last

eh I own my GAS. I don't "need" most of the gear I own. Any legit photographer could produce photos on much lesser gear.....even 10 year old DSLR gear that you can get for a bargain now. I know this personally because its not like the photos I produced 10 years ago are terrible by todays standards lol. I have the portfolio to back my skills as a photographer up. But I fully admit to loving the gear too. Nothing wrong with that!

Plus, it is "the cowboy way!"...

New vid. No larger samples sizes than what you can get in the video, but she does show unedited files.

I don't know if it was mentioned before in this thread, but this is also an interesting review with some full res images:
Mobile01 review

It does have quite a bit of green outlining in the bokeh (but such scenes are challenging for many lenses):

Example F1.4

What I completely dislike at the moment is the bokeh quality wide open.
Too nervous and busy.
First impression of course. Therefore interested in side to side comparisons.

Do you have any examples of that nervous bokeh?
I think Sigma is still in the lead as for rendering smoothness (f1.2 helps also), but from what I've seen the difference is small enough to warrant a direct comparison...

Have a look to the image posted by Jochenb example 1.
Do you like the foreground's bokeh?

I think it's a good result for this kind of scene (harsh light against foliage), even the corners don't look that bad.
I'm really not sure Sigma would do a lot better here (extra blur helps)...

Seriously, how often is foreground bokeh important or even a thing to consider? I don't think I have shot one single image where it is important. Furthermore, smoothness on one side of the focus plane will often give harshness on the other side. At least if the lens is gonna be sharp (well corrected for SA). I don't think you can have all three.

For the conditions in that image, yup! Gordon does a great job comparing the Sigma and Sony. There are no losers, both are excellent. That said even if the Sony wasn't sharper in the center and corners it would still be a win for me just for it's weight & size. Oh and as a bonus it's cheaper

Full review of the new Sony 35/1.4 GM from Lenstip is up! https://www.lenstip.com/index.php?test=obiektywu&test_ob=598

PS! Their DNS trouble is sorted, so the site can be accessed without any trouble (from Norway, Northern Europe).

PPS! They also have a full review of the new Sigma 35/2 C up now.

Just linked one above. It's a no brainer! Meaning if you have the Sigma 35mm 1.2 already and are fine with the size and weight then I see no reason to switch. But if your someone like me that is looking at both the Sony and Sigma I see no advantage to paying more for the Sigma. Sony out Sigma'd Sigma on this one in my opinion.

If we're talking about this picture:
https://attach.mobile01.com/attach/202101/mobile01-30a41e29a759eaee9045805a505dfccb.jpg

I don't really see much foreground bokeh there (the focus is on the hat I think), but the worst part for me would be the background bokeh on the right hand side. I don't really know if any other 35mm would render it visibly better though...

"Oh and as a bonus it's cheaper"
Not in Europe. 1699 vs. 1400 Euros.

I'll never understand this, at the same time Sony is 100$ cheaper in the US...

Now imagine this lens is equipped with an STF element, all of this bokeh smoothness concern would be non-existent . I trust I'll learn to put up with this lens quirks given the size, weight and AF speed I'm going to get out of it.

Good use of a polariser would help to kill the highlights on the foliage too.

But obviously that's real life use not 'lens test' usage

Hmm, never thought of that. I'll have to try it with my 24GM...
