Can't wait to buy this on the B&S forum for $1000 in about a year when everyone decides "it's not the focal length for me"!
Assuming the new FE 35/1.4 GM will have similar depreciation, it took two years for the FE 24/1.4 GM's price to go from $1,400 (new) to $1,200 (used here). Only most recently (since the 35/1.4 GM rumor), it's selling for ~$1,100.
I think the 35/1.4 GM will be even more popular than the 24/1.4 GM so, I would not expect that $1,000 used price anytime soon.

Maybe slightly silly questions so soon......
I'm still on the original A7. I guess it's going to perform okay on there?
Plus...... My main lens is the CV40/1.2 - How do we think the blur/rendering is going to compare? I do mainly shoot woodlands/nature with some outdoor environmental portraits.
If I get this, it has to replace the 40/1.2.
I have been thinking of a cheaper AF 35mm but I don't see the point in having a 35/1.8AF & the 40/1.2 MF.

Yes, I was being more sarcastic than anything, and clearly I’m also a hypocrite because I just pre-ordered.

I face the same decision. I think the main benefit would be AF. But, on your A7 I am not sure that this will be such an important thing. The a7 AF is not that strong compared to the latest generations.
On my a7III and a9 I would get the benefit of the AF and I still can't bring myself to make the trade. The CV lenses make MF such an enjoyable experience for me.

This isn't aging well for me. Pre-order placed.
, a few pages ago I asked if I don't shoot portraits, do I need this lens? Yet at 7:00AM yesterday I placed my order. I don't remember I ever pre-ordered a lens before. Maybe I will be one of those who will sell it for $1000 a year from now, like you said. This Fred Miranda site is bad for your wallet.

I might also have to pre-order...I won't be a hypocrite if I do, but maybe will be if I don't
When I bought and subsequently sold the 24GM I did so because I didn't really see myself using a 24 at f/1.4...and quite clearly stated that I if I were to use a wide lens at 1.4 it would be a 35mm. Well, here it is. As I see it, I don't really have a choice...

You've really painted yourself into a corner. There's only one way out.

I think a number of us CV40 owners will be asking ourselves the same thing. Hopefully someone will post a comparison between these lenses soon. The CV40 will still have an advantage for blur, but I know I stop my lens down to f1.4 as much as I'm shooting wide open because it adds quite a bit of sharpness and contrast.
I agree about adding one of the 35/1.8 or f2 flavors, and never pulled the trigger on owning one alongside the CV. The Sigma 45 has been getting enough love on here that I'd be curious if I saw a reasonably priced used copy. I used to have the Samyang 35/2.8, which I liked for the size but nothing else about it. I took it on vacation to use alongside the CV40 and brought it out exactly once. My 55/1.8 has stuck around and fills my need for AF in a normal focal length. This 35GM though looks very nice, and about at the size limit I'd consider.

A Big congratulatory pat on the back to the engineering team at Sony that came up with this. Management better remembers this successful formula going forward. I hope we’re going to see a third GM prime this year after the 16, which I don’t have any immediate need for but will likely get down the road. Do you guys think a compact 58/1.4 will generate more buzz than this 35?

The solution - the route i’m taking to have the best of both worlds - the 35 gm and the voigt 50/1.2. I have the rendering and blur when I need it, and the convenience of autofocus and a versatile focal length for most other occasions.

I'd say one should pre-order 2 or 3 of them. You know, just in case the first one is de-centered or something. Image the agony while waiting for it to show up in stock again...

Ironic that mitigating against a potential backorder situation is what contributes to the backorder situation in the first place
