The lens looks quite small. Not much different than the 24. Hyped for that.
I really hope its size doesn't lead to high vignetting or truncated bokeh. If not, then this could be the perfect 35 for the size.
My question is why not go with a larger front element, it's not as though there wasn't more room before they would bump against the filter thread. Looks like there's plenty of unused space there.

Since they are so close in size, ergonomics, Sony can't charge much more than the FE 24/1.4 GM's price ($1,400) unless they added more special glass to it. However, if they are indeed similar in price, that will come in odds with the current price of the FE 35/1.4 ZA ($1,600)...what to do?

I'm guessing they'll keep the price at $1600 and bump the ZA pricing down to $1200 or $1300. I think the highest they can reasonably go for the GM is $1700, regardless of how good it is.

Real questions will come into play over the 1.8. Outside of costs how much better will the rendering be to warrant those costs which on this forum is a big deal. Personally I don’t care about the costs if it’s outstanding it will be of value to me but most others it may not be. Double the costs it may seem . Is it better by twice as much. I see a war coming over this one.I’ll gladly not get involved in that but I may buy one regardless to try.

It looks like a 24GM, if it performs like the 24 it will be a winner. Let’s hope this is a blue print they roll across the 50 and 85 as well. Maybe even a 40, it’s grown on me.

Hopefully the 35GM means people will start letting go of their known-to-be sharp and centered copies of the 35 ZA (hit my DMs, people!)

I love the form-factor of it...and if it renders like the 24 GM it'll be a home-run.
Will I trade in my 24 GM for it? At this point I don't think it makes sense. My widest AF lens is the 24 GM, and I'd need something else AF-wise instead, plus I already have a sharp 35 2.8 that isn't going anywhere due to form-factor. Landscape rendering around 35mm? That'd be the CV 40 for me.
Sure, there are so many good options that I could shift stuff around and be very happy, but when it comes to what and how I'm currently utilizing my gear, I'm not sure I'd benefit from the change. As time and needs change though who knows, I'm predicting it to be a hit.
