The three variants are described as silver, black, and black nickel paint. Yet the product pictures show silver, black, and black with silver focus ring. Am I correct in assuming then that the pure black lens is the black nickel paint variant?

I think that "Black nickel paint" means actually brass, with black paint on some parts, and nickel plate on others (the focussing ring)

Gotta say I’m experiencing mild temptation to get an A7c, have it Kolari ultra thin modified, and a small kit of smaller M lenses...including one of these.
It's a great idea David. Very temped to do the same but I already have the M10. If I'd Kolari this in the future, I would use my CV 21/3.5, 35/2.5, and 75/1.5 set with it. (Maybe the new CV 50/1.5 II as well)

This has been my hope since before the camera was announced lol, but I was deterred by the EVF that will make MF a pain.
And there's some suggesting the DR isn't as good at base ISO (though I thought it would be the same as the a7iii), but I'll wait and see to phototophotons and DXOmark rate. Sony says up 15 stops.
Perhaps the next iteration or sister model I'll pick up.

I’m withholding judgement about whether MF will be a pain. The resolution is adequate, and the magnification may not matter. I don’t need specs if there is diopter correction. MF may not be r4 level, but it may be fine (and as good or better as a Visioflex).
Again base ISO may still be as good as a73, but if it’s a bit worse that will matter in maybe one in two hundred images where I want to raise shadows that extra bit.

But we’ll see,,,
Yeah, I am with holding my verdict till I try one in person. I just know that EVF is even smaller than the original a7x series, so hmmm.

I like the 'black nickel' style but don't want the extra weight. I think I will try the all black one.
I also like the looks of that zebra version best but wouldn't like the extra weight (and cost) since they key improvement is the small size and light weight. I might actually buy the black version but I need to trade in something as I've already pre-ordered A7c and Xperia 1 II Japan Sim-Free model for October. I hope this lens will work reasonably on standard unmodified A7c too... I had 5 min hands-on with the A7c yesterday at Sony showroom at Ginza to check the viewfinder and grip-feel. Grip felt pretty good and viewfinder is manageable although I think it'll require quite careful eye-positioning.
I think A7c will be popular in Japan as there was 1h40min queue to get hands-on time at the showroom and quite many people were showing interest...

I had a feeling there might be an Asia/US difference in the reception. Though a buddy of mine in the US (Hanover NH) who has been put off getting a full frame camera by the available form factors is suddenly on board, so there may be converts there too.
'At a recent photo gear show, a reader asked a Zeiss representative if the company is planning to release any updates to the existing ZM range of lenses or any new ZM lenses for Leica M mount and the answer was: *no imminent updates or roadmap updates whatsoever*, with the Distagon T* 35mm f/1.4 still being the latest ZM update.'

At Mapcamera.com, the price is ¥80,18 (price) ¥8,018(tax) for the black/silver aluminum versions. Approx. $770 USD (link)
The "panda version" (nickel + brass) is ¥96,546 or $927.
Perhaps the US prices will be $799 and $899 respectively?
Voigtlander 50/1.5 II styles in detail:
The silver version matches my Yeenon helicoid adapter quite nicely. Not that I should care about that, but hey, given the choice. I'll be curious to see how this performs...when I think of buying a 50mm I really have a hard time considering anything other than the CV 50/2 APO...that one seems like a true gem and in native E mount.
