Announcement: (translated) - Link

A compact-style large-diameter standard lens that you will want to use regularly. The open aperture value is F1.5, which is a large aperture, yet it is easy to handle due to its tight size. By adopting a double-sided aspherical lens, it demonstrates excellent optical performance even when the aperture is wide open. Six variations are available depending on the combination of exterior design and coating.

The legendary large-diameter lens NOKTON

NOKTON is the title given to large-diameter lenses of F1.5 or less among Voigtlander lenses. The first Nokton was developed in 1950. At that time, it was regarded as a lens that could shoot even under low light conditions. In today's world where the sensitivity of image sensors has increased, it is attracting attention that the large blur caused by opening the aperture can be used as a photographic expression.

Main features:

● Classical exterior The exterior uses a classical design. All parts are made of metal and have excellent texture and operability, providing the joy of owning a lens.

● By adopting a compact and high - performance aspherical lens, it demonstrates excellent optical performance even when the aperture is wide open. The total length of the product is 36.9 mm (from the mount surface), and there is little eclipse of the shooting frame when using the rangefinder, and handling is also good.

● Two types of lens coatings to choose from Multi-coating (MC) aims for infinitely neutral color reproduction, and single coating (SC) reproduces classical color tones. It is a lineup that you can choose your favorite lens coating.

● In addition to the silver and black finishes of the practical model that uses three types of exterior aluminum materials to choose from , we also offer specifications that satisfy the sense of ownership by applying nickel plating and black paint to the brass material.

● Manual focus that enables reliable focus operation By adopting an all-metal helicoid unit that has been processed and adjusted with high precision and high-quality grease that produces an appropriate torque, focusing with a smooth operation feeling is realized. Allows for delicate focus adjustment.

● Bayonet type VM mount A VM mount is used for the lens mount. In addition to the Bessa series (excluding Bessa L and R), it can be used with cameras that use the M mount.

● Equipped with a rangefinder interlocking system The high-precision rangefinder interlocking mechanism enables severe focusing near the maximum aperture.

● Full-size image circle We have secured a generous image circle that supports full-size 35mm format. In addition, it achieves a very compact style compared to interchangeable lenses for single-lens reflex cameras

Optical design: 7 groups 8 elements with double aspherical surfaces (2)

Nice to see Cosina back in action with new lens releases. I think these will be only for VM as there have never been any "Vintage line" category releases for E-mount and they also have separate SC and MC versions of these which is also VM only up to now. I wonder what they've changed from v1... Hopefully the focus ring will have a different/better feel to it this time.

I wonder if the 50/1.5 Vintage line will look more like the 35/2 Ultron or 75/1.5 Nokton.

My quess would be something resembling 75/1.5 in style since 50/3.5 is already quite similar to 35/2 in many ways. We'll probably see soon. I'll keep an eye on Cosina site for official announcement. I guess it might come today or next week if October release is in the cards.

Yes, my guess as well. Both f/1.5 lenses with similar styling. Currently in M-mount I don't have a 50mm lens. (only 21/3.5, 35/2.5 and 75/1.5)

It seems the Voigtlander 50 f/1.2 would fit in there nicely and is such a nice lens, but I am sure you have thought of that.

Another 50mm? 🙄
How about the Ultron 35mm f1.7?

This one was discontinued and replaced by the 35/2 Ultron. However, I think the 35/1.7's was sharper and rendering more pleasant (smoother at transition zone)

I have 3 CV M/LTM 50mm lenses currently: 50/3.5 Heliar (current in-production version), 50/2.5 Color-Skopar LTM (2002, discontinued in 2007), 50/2 Heliar classic (Limited 2006, sold only in bundle with Voigtländer 250th anniversary Bessa models). I used to have the original 50/1.5 VM Vintage Line lens for a long time but I sold it eventually, mainly because I didn't like the feel of the focus ring in use and I had so many other 50mm lenses. I also have the 50/1.2 Nokton and 50/2 APO in E-mount so I'm pretty much covered for CV 50mm lenses...

On the other hand, I have all 4 lenses that are in the current in-production Cosina Vintage Line so this new one will make my Vintage Line collection less complete.

I've sold my CV 50/3.5 Heliar but sometimes regret it. Such light lens with very pleasant rendering and rich colors.

Never tried the CV 50/1.5 because I had the Zeiss 50/1.5C but perhaps will get the new version for review.

Juha, have you ever tried the 35/2.5 Color-Skopar? It's a very underrated lens imo. It's sharper than both 35mm Ultron lenses wide open and only the 35/1.7 matches it at f/2.5. It's that sharp and so tiny!
Rendering is pretty uniform across the field and actually better than the 35/2 Ultron's. (not as busy off-axis). The 35/1.7 has the better rendering though but it's also much bigger.

I had the old LTM version of 35/2.5 Color-Skopar (P-type, not C) before and I mainly used it on my NEX-6 but when I switched to A7R, my 35/2.5 didn't get much use anymore as it didn't work so well there and I sold it after some time. Nowadays I'm a fan of Color-Skopars and the 28/3.5 LTM has been my most often used lens since I got it this summer. I enjoy it especially on my A9 regardless of some FC, the rendering is very pleasant for all distances from wide open and it works well stopped down too. It's also tiny and very light and has very nice looks. The same lens on my Sigma fp has much more color-shading and vignetting (both fixable but extra work) so I prefer using it on A9 instead where there's no visible color-shading at all and vignetting is more moderate too. I think it'll be a regular companion for me with the upcoming A7c as long as it works as nicely there as on my A9.

I might try the current-production 35/2.5 Color-Skopar some day as it's quite nicely priced and tiny, but now that I have the 28 at hand, I will likely go out with that more often since it's my favorite FL for walk-around use. Hence I haven't been considering 35/2.5 so much right now.

I had the original LTM CV 50/1.5, which is optically the same as the now discontinued M version (though coatings were different). IMO it's very different from a Sonnar design, even the relatively modern ZM. The CV was comparable in sharpness to the Leica 50 Lux ASPH, at least centrally, with slightly busier bokeh and propensity to purple fringe at wider apertures in high contrast transitions. Its character was very different from Sonnar rendering.

It will be interesting to see what the vII brings. I would hope much better across-frame performance from wide open. I would have really preferred they port the FE 50/2 APO to M-mount. This would be good spacing with 50s at f/1.2, 2.0 and 3.5. f/1.5 is IMO too close to f/1.2.

Given it will be a 'vintage' line lens, I have little hope the ergonomics will be improved.

I got interested in Voigtlander lenses by looking at the amazing shots people were posting in Nokton 40/1.2 and Nokton 50/1.2 threads, but it was rather confusing to understand their lineup. They have too many lenses in 35 to 50 range for a noob like me.

It also creates the paradox of choice (https://www.ted.com/talks/barry_schwartz_the_paradox_of_choice?language=en). No matter which 50/40/35 you will pick, you will always be thinking about the other options you didn't pick (this is quite obvious already in various threads on this forum).

Have you ever thought about making a comparison of these fiftys, mostly for their rendering? It might interest many people, and me for sure

The Voigtlander 35/40/50 f1.2 Nokton lenses have pretty much the same optical design, only tweaked to accommodate the different FLs. Rendering, color and spherical aberration control is very similar as well. I'm really enjoying the 35/1.2 right now. It's noticeably wider than the 40mm which works better for environment portraits imo. (Pairs great with the CV 75/1.5)

The 40/1.2 SE is the smallest and lightest and consider it the perfect one-lens solution.

I think you would really enjoy the 35/2.5 C-S but it does not work well adapted on the Sony. Brilliant lens on the M10.
