Really tempted as a compact companion to my R4 and A9 but just not sure about the viewfinder and lack of custom buttons. The ergonomics for the most part of my now gone A6600 did not bother me but the EVF did. Still temping though.

If you disliked teh A6600 EVF, you're going to hate the A7c EVF. The A6600's is 0.71x vs 0.59x on the A7c.

if popup wasn't possible, at least an add-on EVF would'be been better, even the RX1r have bigger magnification

I'd have rather seen a further reduction in top plate height and a clip-on EVF than the combo we got. I did shoot a NEX-5N that way before the NEX-7 came out and it was workable, the tilting EVF was fun as well.

Could you imagine what we could have had if they'd stuffed a FF sensor into a NEX-5N/R body? I'd have happily given up IBIS for a FF E mount body that small even with the body being basically unusable on a tripod and would need a clip-on EVF & flash.

Not really, the base body is pretty much the same size as the A7III. It's all of 3mm less wide, same depth. Top plate is very close to the same height as the A7III.

They chopped the big EVF off and stuffed a tiny one into the empty space in the corner and used low-profile dials on the top and went back to a A7II style grip.

There's some interesting engineering in there, but it doesn't seem to have resulted in any real reduction in the body size, which is largely determined by the screen size and the necessary control

Not to mention that Sony's ibis is the worst of all the camera companies.

I really wanted to like this camera and was seriously considering getting one but...

Omitting the customizable buttons without bringing in the new menu system and touch operation of the menu...

I have an extensive Sony system but for the first time, I really want Sony to fail with this new model.

Man, based on most of the comments here, on dpreview and SAR, Sony got slapped around quite a bit

They might have received a warmer reception if it were priced at $1299 with these specs.

It's smaller and lighter than any full frame. This camera is obviously not for you. For me, it's fantastic.

Sooo you have no idea that not many lenses can handle the 7RIV, do you actually have one??

I think they stumbled on this one. Too close to the price of the a7iii, and missing several key features for a camera in that range (decent viewfinder, dual slots, joystick, custom buttons, two dials, etc).

(although given my track record trying to second-guess such things, I expect they'll sell a zillion of them.)

I do . Which is why I said I would give this lens a try. Please stop with the "not many lenses" thing.

Don't bother, from the samples on DPreview I can already tell it's not going to be a good match.

I think the fp is actually smaller, but the a7C is lighter.

I forgot about the fp but that doesn't have IBIS which is a must for me.

similar mistake made on the ZV1, it's really unbelivable

can't imagine how they could develop the SIII side by side with the a7c, must've been like a torture for the engineers buchering the poor 7III...

Pricing aside -

As I said before; drop a couple of ounces off your belly, ass, and thighs and you can pack a full-featured camera without a weight penalty.

I can see this as an "intro to FF" camera but I can't see current owners of the 3rd/4th gen cameras selling them to buy this.

Quite frankly; cost aside, I can't see it as a compelling second camera either.

My $.02; nothing more.
