It ticks enough of the boxes for me.
$1,800 USD is a bit high. I wonder if this is subject to tarriffs like the 135 GM and fe 35 1.8
It's listed at $2399 CAD, which indicates it's not a tarriff-related price. For comparison the FE35/1.8 lists at $799CAD vs $749USD, so if the A7C was affected by tarriffs I'd expect it to be $1950-2000CAD.

Well that ain't happening then.
Huh? You seemed disappointed when you thought it was $300...felt it might not be very good because its so cheap...now that it's priced higher, your interest is gone?

Also, not sure why anyone would want to stick this lens on a RIV.

Really tempted as a compact companion to my R4 and A9 but just not sure about the viewfinder and lack of custom buttons. The ergonomics for the most part of my now gone A6600 did not bother me but the EVF did. Still temping though.

Yeah, I read the specs and just based off of those the leaked price is either suspect or Sony is being a bit too optimistic about their prospects.
Although (cue X Files theme song) it could just be that they leaked that price so they could drop it at $900 and people would instantly pre-order it. $2000 seems a bit high.
Perhaps they should have just skipped IBIS and called this a true "budget" offering.

This body needs to be a LOT cheaper than the leaked price to be competitive. I'm talking Z5 pricing. The small is nice, but Sony cut corners everywhere with this body. Low-end LCD, trash EVF, cheap shutter, etc.
Small is nice, and potentially very interesting, but this spec list is an exercise how to do a camera for the Z5's pricepoint without compromising AF/sensor performance.
They did get size/weight right though. 424g is very competitive without bringing fp type limitations. Honestly aside from the finder I like the specs overall. But they needed to step up, not down. And there's far smaller bodies with larger finders out there (E-M10's for example). ...Show more →

Incredible Sony made a full frame this size with IBIS.
Not really, the base body is pretty much the same size as the A7III. It's all of 3mm less wide, same depth. Top plate is very close to the same height as the A7III.
They chopped the big EVF off and stuffed a tiny one into the empty space in the corner and used low-profile dials on the top and went back to a A7II style grip.
There's some interesting engineering in there, but it doesn't seem to have resulted in any real reduction in the body size, which is largely determined by the screen size and the necessary control space to the right of the screen.
I honestly think Sony could have done a smaller body if they'd gone with a better but smaller (or more 16x9 format) LCD instead of going to a smaller EVF. They managed to find the lousy middle point between too much miniaturization and not enough.
Sony's done a better job at dropping mass than size on the A7c. Have to say they did a great job on losing weight even if the size drop is basically EVF hump removal.
