p.25 #2 · Pre-order: Sony A7C Compact Full Frame ($1,798)
I realy like the effort sony invested to build a fullframe, A6600 sized (and weight!) camera with IBIS. Fuji says, the IBIS for their APS-C sensor (like the XT-4) does not fit in the X-Pro3! It is a technical achievment of sony - no doubt - and my honor to sony for developing it!
The compact form and the 150g weight savings makes a real difference to an A7III (I own). Generally I like the cam and could enjoy the small form for hikes with our Scouting boys (when I use High-ISO often at night).
But until now I am not yet sure if I will trade in all the ergonomics (buttons, wheel, joystick) for size and weight. Maybe I have to test the cam first

If Sony made the sensor stack thinner on this body, that would be interesting for the Leica lens enthusiasts, if thinner is an option for dedicated lenses at all.

Why would Sony change the sensor stack thickness to favor M-lenses while negatively affecting their own lenses?
There is alway the option to Kolari-mod the sensor for about $500. I bet many will pursue this route.

Maybe Sony feelS they can undercut Leica’s market with very little additional R&D by using a thinner sensor stack and while charging way less than Leica body (good profit) but offering better IQ in a smaller package at a much lower price.
I don’t think they will, but not having to send a camera off to Kolari, breaking warrant and deal with WB and such would be awfully convenient.

I can probably live with one command dial. But, only if it doesn't have the same flawed battery door, like the A6xxx and a7x III, where water can get in...

Silver looks better. I hope the knobs are metal and not the shiny plastic ones. Design looks slightly different from a6k series. The knobs are not flush with the body here and top plate is also different.
They were not left with a place for Menu button Its in the middle.

I doubt any of the mass manufacturers are all that interested in Leica's small but dedicated base. We should probably be satisfied with the fact that we're getting a BSI sensor in the camera and not one of the more cross-talk prone designs like the Z5 or S5.

Are we sure it has IBIS? I mean, the "leaked" / maybe totally Photoshopped pic says so, but I wouldn't be surprised (or care much) if it doesn't. Fuji said it couldn't be done, Sigma skipped it.
Some folks are gonna be P*SSED if it comes with no IBIS after all this. That's for sure.

I agree, which is why I said I don’t think they will, but it does seem they very easily and practically could.

They could. It would make more sense if it were an M-mount camera rebranded by one of the third party M-mount manufacturers like Cosina or Zeiss (Digital IKON or Bessa), but they certainly could.

Yeah, but if they are going to go as thin as Leica then that means no dust shaker, and worse performance for any lens designed for FE mount. I am pretty sure that especially that last point would lead Sony to respond with a pretty hard, "no," to any request to make a camera with a Leica M type thickness of the sensor stack.
p.25 #17 · Pre-order: Sony A7C Compact Full Frame ($1,798)
From a Sony perspective, making Sony cameras work better with Leica M lenses just means lost lens sales. Absolutely zero benefit to Sony to do that.
Best way for Sony to go after Leica is to create some small high quality GM lenses and get their partners to do the same. Lots of key focal lengths and aperture combinations still missing.
p.25 #18 · Pre-order: Sony A7C Compact Full Frame ($1,798)
In the current Sony bodies, the IBIS acts as the dust shaker and there is no separate dust shaker.
I agree with tzhang4284 that Sony should pursue their own line.

Yes, but there are two pieces of glass one a bit removed from the sensor that also has the IR cut filter and one glued onto the sensor that is just plain regular glass. As I understand it the IBIS primarily removes dust from the first piece of glass and is does little to the second piece of glass attached to the sensor.
Leica M digital cameras have a different set up. There is only one piece of glass which works as an IR cut filter that is glued directly on the sensor.
It is a huge long shot that Sony would try to do it the Leica way, but it is unclear to me anyway that IBIS could effectively remove the dust if the only sensor cover glass was glued directly on the sensor (i.e., they did sensor cover glass the Leica way).

Assuming the leaked specs are accurate, or the specs aren't lower than leaked, I am probably going to replace my fp with this.
IBIS + EVF + Flippy screen are all things I feel are missing on the fp, and this has all of them with better auto focus and battery life.
I'm still not a huge fan of the grip, but I do like that it's smaller than the iii/iv grip. Should give me a bit more finger room.
The small lens selection is also much better for e-mount. SY 18 + 35 + 75 would be a fun combo with this.
Hopefully, the Sony announcement also includes small lenses other than that kit lens that I want nothing to do with.
