any chance that the back dial is clickable? did Sony ever do something like this?
and I've got to say, while planning to buy this I'm afraid the backlash might be so great they'll rush in the successor ASAP and end up with a brand new model a year later like they did on the a7

Exactly. I can remember the many comments of people wishing for an A7iii type sensor (which is still amazing an provides top performance, see Bill Claff PDR charts) in a smaller body.
As usual people always complain, mostly those who are only shooting for fun.
I guess those who are only shooting for fun don't matter
Clearly this camera is aimed at pros so I guess the rest of us can just stop complaining about the missing front dial, or whatever.
Hopefully the top dial can be reprogrammed as suggested by raminolta

If you count it up it’s 6 custom . The dial has 4 , aF on, trash can. Our A7rIV has 9 maybe 10. Not in my hands
Yeah, I use the 4 on the dial extensively with my A7r II. Six would be plenty for me.

You are right, Fred. I should have phrased it differently.
It is unlikely to have a higher (than2.36M) resolution EVF.
I will be surprised if the EVF is anything other than 2.36M dots. I doubt they will go with less than the A6600 and I doubt they will go with more for the reasons you suggest and to also to keep the size down. That is the resolution of the current A7 III, so not all that bad, but not great either.

I love the camera's size and looks and don't care about the lack of front dial or custom button. The main reason I'm not getting one is the 24MP sensor. Hopefully Sony will offer future models with 42 or 61MP sensors.
My guess is that they likely will. It would make quite a trekker's camera.
For 90% of what I like to shoot, the 24 mpix is fine.
There does seem to be a lot of excitement about this camera.

Trying to think. Camera is not in my hands at the moment
C1 magnify
C2 I think MF/AF
C3 electronic shutter. Not needed on this cam
Trash can is crop mode
AEL is a custom AF function
AF is just that
Than dial display top
ISO
WB
Down is focus peaking
Oh center push . I need camera. Lol
So that’s 11. Okay I’m a pig sooooo maybe 9 I’d be far happier than 6.

If I used it more as a strictly travel cam which I still have yet to find one I like than I could deal with 24mpx. Kind of why I looked at that new Sigma. That one interest me.

Oh crap I forgot joystick for AF placement
If you were using an AF lens, you would have tracking AF and not really need the joystick for AF placement. But I know you would be using manual a lot. We'll have to see how well the touch screen functions for AF placement. If on a tripod, I assume it would be fine. But if hand-held and looking through the EVF, you might be able to place the point with your thumb. Depends on how they have implemented it in software.

I'll probably get one, as I also like the looks and size and 24MP is the ideal resolution for me. This should be very nice with my small CV lenses. Not much need for the front wheel for me when aperture can be controlled on the lens. Just hoping that the price is reasonable enough in Japan.

If the rumors are correct, the A7c would have the best sensor among the recent releases. Panasonic S5 and the Nihon Z5 have old tech, A7II era, sensors.

I almost tend to think this maybe perfect for manual focus as maybe all you need is magnify for the custom function. If AF only could possibly more a issue. Not going to get into that debate again but MF lenses need less functionality from the camera. So a few CV lenses maybe a wonderful thing. I need specs to figure this out more.

Very compact with CV 21/3.5 and CV 35/1.4 lenses for sure.

I have an A7RIII and I don't touch the tracking on that camera, I use the AF joystick. chiron wrote:
