If it handles like an A6600 I would be fine with that. Fingers crossed for a good quality viewfinder, with decent resolution and optics.
Would have liked to see a front dial but when I had an A6600 that really wasn't a huge problem. However the viewfinder did bother me maybe because I wear glasses. The quality of the viewfinder wasn't great either especially since I was use to my A7RIV. Hoping the viewfinder is better on this one. I might then take a real interest in it as a compact back up companion to my R4 and A9.

Now seeing the black I am pumped. If this has happens to have the newest AF similar to the Siii ,10bit codec in just 24 and the new Active mode I'd be thrilled. The lack of the joystick blows.
I look forward to seeing more. I love my RX1 but I could easily see myself using the A7C and smaller lens. Could be a great tool for travel editorial work as well.

Me too. The best interfaces are invisible, so the less camera-consciousness, the more photography-consciousness. Many who disagree and they are maybe the target audience here. That top panel will glare like a mini sun.
And for retro lovers, a link to perhaps the most extreme example, the 2013 Nikon DF, with stacked dials which needed unlocking! You can while away the minutes playing with this device, as your intended human subject walks off into the distance. (or ignore the dial overload and do the normal things as workarounds.)
The Df is the poster child for how to do retro wrong. It’s little more than a bunch of crap stuffed on top of a D600 body, with the two UI’s not integrated in the least. I’ve used one and the dial UI is a bad joke compared to an X-T1/2/3/4. The X-T2 and later are exercises in the right way to do dial UI, the X-T1 did have some issues around dial locks that were solved on later iterations

Wow I hope the image is fake. My biggest gripe about my a6500 is the lack of a 3rd dial. I want to be able to adjust aperture, shutter speed, and ISO on dials the way my friend with his A7iii can. What a disappointment if real.
Like I mentioned before, it does have three dials, the third being the exposure compensation dial which probably can be programmed to do shutter speed or aperture in the manual mode while the back wheel can be set for ISO and the upper back dial is used for aperture/shutter speed.. We have to wait and see. If it can't be programmed, I would be disappointed too. Otherwise, it meets my requirements.

This camera has a cheap and nasty feel about it.Looks more cheap the the original A7. Ergonomics Look awful. Bad move from Sony.
I see this camera's mere existence is bothering you. Obviously, this camera is not for you. Just move on and forget about it. The ergonomics is fine and it doesn't look cheap. We need to wait and learn about its built quality before making a judgement (metal or plastic, weather sealing, etc.). We also need to know the confirmed price. For $2000, many may not buy this camera but at a lower price, it can have a strong market appeal.

Someone on SAR did a size comparison, and it looks to be essentially identical in size to the A7 III with the EVF hump removed. Which begs the question: why remove things like the joystick and front dial if the overall size is essentially the same, minus the EVF hump....there's not less space on the back or front to do so. If this is priced at the rumored $2,100 it's a huge mistake in my opinion, given the loss of several direct controls and essentially the same specs as the A7 III. Re-evaluating my earlier pricing comment, I think at $1500 this is an extremely attractive camera....maybe even $1600. Beyond that it just doesn't make sense to me at all.
I disagree on the cheap comment. The a6000 felt cheap, but the more recent a6xxxx bodies feel really solid in the hand, and I have no doubt this will feel the same.

It looks like this camera is for a certain market. Vloging.
The lack of dials, the touchscreen functionality, the swivel screen, the recording button, the small EVF, the low number of mount screws.
I think it was probably rushed out because of covid. Every joe blogs and their cat are vlogging. I think if they price it right it will sell ok. But I don’t think this camera will be priced above the A7III.

One other thing that I feel needs mentioning. The lack of a joystick is something that I could potentially be OK with given that touch-pad point selection is a thing. However, I have noticed due to using my EOS RP that the lack of a joystick when coupled with a fully articulating screen can be frustrating at times, because if you're shooting low, the screen is now all the way to your left - which means that changing focus points isn't easily possible without completely removing your left hand from support and tapping on the screen.
There just seems to be some odd decisions made here with regards to controls. There's a lot of space next to the hot shoe, and looking at my a6400, which has a pop-up flash immediately adjacent to the hot shoe, then two dials, that they should have easily been able to place the PASM dial closer to the hot shoe, then fit both the rear command dial and the EC dial on the top plate, which would clear room on the back to move the AF-On button up and add a joystick. Then, they already have a front grip on the a6600 that leaves for two custom buttons on top, but they've chosen to go with one here. It would have been trivially easy to add a front dial and a second custom button on front, essentially giving full A7III controls on a more compact body. Not doing so seems intentionally crippling, which is very disheartening in a camera rumored to be priced above that camera and two years newer.

The 28mm "vlogging" lens kit was also probably rushed.

I am not interested in getting this camera but I am happy Sony is making it for folks who may enjoy using it. When Sony makes one in similar size with a 42MP sensor, a front dial and a joy stick, I may take another look.

The grip looks like the original a7 (hoped for taller or deeper grip)
No joystick (Really??!)
The camera is only nominally smaller than the a7III (sans hump, camera size comparisons available online, about 150g lighter)

I agree; but it occurs to me that if the touch-screen works for positioning focus point, combined with the left-side EVF (so my nose is constantly changing the focus point), it might be a workable system.

What's your logic saying Covid made Sony rush this camera out?
