I would buy something like this if it had more MP. Like 60+ MP. With just 24MP, it will take fine photos, but I would like to have the ability to reduce lenses in size and quantity by being able to crop heavily as a zoom feature. Might as well stick to APS-C for now until we see a high MP sensor in the smaller body.
Really good sign seeing the IBIS in there, though. This will be a great selling camera.
Edit: The silver top would be a major fail if there isn't a black option. Their LCD screens are already hard enough to see in bright light, let alone having a mirrored surface blinding you while looking down at the screen.

I actually like the handling of the small Sony APS-C bodies when used with small lenses, but I think the price is the real sticking point here. This sort of body will handle well with small primes and a few of the more compact zooms, but beyond that it won't be the best, and that limits its usefulness as an all purpose body. And since it will pull 'small kit' and backup duty, and with this feature set, I don't see the justification for a $2100 asking price.
At $1300 to compete with the RP and the Nikon Z5, I think it would be a great option, but it's a non starter at the rumored price. ...Show more →
A6600 currently at 1200 there is no chance this is close to 1300. No need to try to compete with RP either. The one they need to get close with is the Z5. That actually looks like a nicely spec'd camera for the price. Sony being Sony they will not match 1400. You'll have to pay alittle more for the new form factor. So I'm guessing 1600-1700. Obviously that depends on the spec's. If they have something up their sleeve then maybe more.

I agree with most, in that the rumoured price is too high and that $1200 is too low, but Sony could easily go at Nikon’s Z5 price point if they want to be aggressive. They showed that ability with the A7iii release - nothing better at its price point.
Like you said though, it better have some nice tricks if they price it close to $2k.

Well, I take photos, so yeah, I care about how things look. Money and performance being equal, I'll take the one that looks better because it gives me more pleasure to handle and use. I also care about how my car looks, my sunglasses, shoes, phone, furniture, house, headphones, backpacks, t-shirts, bed linen, art...

Functionality and ability to deliver first. Looks way back in 2nd. I'd take an ugly camera that delivers amazing photos over a sexy looking camera that delivers so-so photos any day of the week. It's a tool, not a fashion accessory...at least that's how I view a camera.

Me too. The best interfaces are invisible, so the less camera-consciousness, the more photography-consciousness. Many who disagree and they are maybe the target audience here. That top panel will glare like a mini sun.
And for retro lovers, a link to perhaps the most extreme example, the 2013 Nikon DF, with stacked dials which needed unlocking! You can while away the minutes playing with this device, as your intended human subject walks off into the distance. (or ignore the dial overload and do the normal things as workarounds.)

For me it's less about looks and more about the compact form factor making it easier to integrate a camera into my day to day so I can shoot more. If I'm packing a camera + small prime into a small bag with my iPad and what not then losing the EVF hump goes a very long way. Same if I'm carrying a camera on a holster or sling for a day out. And if having a camera on me because its easy to carry means I catch shots that I wouldn't have, then the trade-offs are worthwhile.
I have my a7riv and a7rIII for weddings and posed portraits, and yes I need a fat grip and all sorts of buttons, wheels, and dual slots of that kind of work. But the a7c checks different boxes I need for my personal photography. I have and need my workhorses, but this is a lifestyle camera for lifestyle photography.

So negativity for a camera nobody here has even used. It might not be what you’ve been waiting for but surely, a compact a6xxx sized FF ILC camera is at least a new concept where we haven’t seen any of the major vendors really go yet, no?
p.20 #12 · Pre-order: Sony A7C Compact Full Frame ($1,798)
Wow I hope the image is fake. My biggest gripe about my a6500 is the lack of a 3rd dial. I want to be able to adjust aperture, shutter speed, and ISO on dials the way my friend with his A7iii can. What a disappointment if real.

Exactly. I can remember the many comments of people wishing for an A7iii type sensor (which is still amazing an provides top performance, see Bill Claff PDR charts) in a smaller body.
As usual people always complain, mostly those who are only shooting for fun.

Like I said, performance being equal, I'll take the better looking one. I never said it wasn't a tool, nor did I say it was a fashion accessory. The Fuji's look good and they're functional; I suspect they were designed by people who love and use cameras, hence the quasi-cult following. Nothing wrong with appreciating the thoughtful design and craftsmanship of a quality tool.

I think that comes from the A7III being 'old' by now, and if Sony now uses that same 'old' sensor in a new $2000+ body it's quite literally repacking an old product in a new fancy wrapper (Fuji style), and integrating some of the features from the well-received A7SIII.
I am still really confused where they are going to position this and who it's for. I'm still having a hard time with that. This isn't the RX high MP body people asked for or the fully featured compact A7III.5 that people hoped for. It's something different.

Z5 is the same size as an A7iii, does not have size going for it.
