What's your logic saying Covid made Sony rush this camera out?
I think they probably had it in development, but decided to push it out now because covid has caused a surge in vlogging. People want high end cameras that can do very high quality vlogging. This camera makes a lot of sense for that crowd. Compact, run and gun style. It will probably be a very capable stills camera with 10FPS, etc. But the main focus will be vlogging and run/gun shooter.

I think that comes from the A7III being 'old' by now, and if Sony now uses that same 'old' sensor in a new $2000+ body it's quite literally repacking an old product in a new fancy wrapper (Fuji style), and integrating some of the features from the well-received A7SIII.
I am still really confused where they are going to position this and who it's for. I'm still having a hard time with that. This isn't the RX high MP body people asked for or the fully featured compact A7III.5 that people hoped for. It's something different.
Just look at the performance of recent cameras at https://www.photonstophotos.net/Charts/PDR.htm . The A73 sensor is still amongst the very best, easily. So I don't see the sensor as a problem at all. 24MP is a great compromise for a compact camera, more than enough for 99%. This isn't a pure landscape camera, or BIF camera. It doesn't want to provide 6k or 8k.
You talk about what people ask for. What people? Nobody, nobody here has any idea about how many people really desire a high MP body or significantly higher MP value than 24MP. It is just projection of personal wishes of a few enthusiasts, being very loud here, who give others the impression of what is desired and what is not. Sony for sure did some research on that.
We don't know what other features are in this camera, what processor, EVF, AF algorithms, etc., most is just rumors so far. That doesn't prevent many here from stating opinions based on incomplete data.

the only real change seems to be the I/O, the door there reminds me more of SD card slot door than what they used to do for IO, so maybe they reversed the positions? nothing remarkable in that but would be better for selfie mode

the kit zoom makes no sense for that, thankfully the E-mount has many options.

Seems to me Sony had this planned out for a while given they have a whole new set of lenses for this camera as well. Don't know if you know how long it takes to develop a complex piece of equipment like a camera...but it isn't something that can just be pushed out the door in a month or two. I would think this camera / lenses were in the works for years from initial vision to creating the manufacturing line and quality control processes.

"The camera will be marketed for vloggers and youtubers" -SAR Rumor
So maybe not so compelling for photographers looking for buttons, dials and a joystick, but is rumored to come with fully articulating screen and probably ( guess) the new menu.
SAR readers vote results to date, probably mostly photographers, maybe this vote is more about the price :

I’m just interested in the lens. I have a full spectrum a7r that I use with a Kolari filter for aero chrome style pictures. I previously used a Nex 5 with 16-50 and liked that form factor. This will get me a similar form factor

Have to say this going round and round on marketing , development and all that BS is a total turn off. Are we not photographers than some back door commentator. I think we need a forum for the total BS that reality is has no bearing at all on the product and one can prove smarter than the other guy. This happens every stinking time a camera comes to market. Folks get over it no one cares. It’s about what’s in front of you. Does it have what you need or want. Will it work and what it’s features are. Seriously if I want to know about marketing techniques there are better forums for that. No one can stay on topic anymore on what they are actually building for us. It’s why I’m barely here anymore some rocking chair quarterbacking is a total turn off. 9 times out of 10 they are wrong anyway or worse questing at everything. Can we not just wait for ACTUAL specs. There I said it. Stop the gossip

I am still wondering what the "new concept" might be. Can't just be the FF sensor in a small Sony APS-C -like body. As someone else commented if "new concept" isn't a translation error, then the only thing left important to Youtuber/Vlogger has to be along the lines of a priority on wireless distribution features/functions workflow to the cloud/social media. Zeiss ZX1-like direct connect? Maybe an internal SSD or some other expansive internal memory alongside the SD Card slot ?

Maybe an LCD electronic shutter to eliminate rolling shutter.

I think the word "vlogger" automatically makes people's decision.
Yes perhaps. Funny thing is, probably the Vloggers are the only ones making any money in these peculiar days. Sony is currently targeting video/vloggers for a reason.

Looks like a fun little camera, but the main issue I see is losing 3 custom buttons.
On the current crop bodies, there are two on the top plate and one next to the menu button on the back, and none of those are there. Only the trashcan button remains as a "dedicated" custom button. That removes a lot of quick functionality to the camera.
