I'd trade away even more dials and buttons for a 42mp sensor

If this new "concept" gets any traction, I bet you get your higher MP sensor within 6 months.

Is this a legit picture? Or just more SAR trolling / flailing about.

Asking for a friend.

It’s a real photo supplied in collaboration with Fuji and Canikon

See? So many opinions and conflicting desires for this camera. I would prefer no grip whatsoever and the option to add a small or large one (Sigma got this part soooo right) instead of what the pic shows.

Anyway, I'm still curious, if not *interested* in this camera, but it would have to be well equipped and cater to my particular idiosyncrasies for me to consider selling my fp at this point.

For what I shoot, mainly street, this seems like a good fit. Don't need all the bells and whistles. My M10P had very minimal buttons and dials and worked just fine for my needs.

The comments below the SAR image are mostly scathing, particularly re the exorbitant price. 'I’m morbidly curious how that little kit lens performs'.

With IBIS, folding screen and heavy battery, will this less-is-more camera be a lightweight? They sure saved on the dials and controls they omitted.

I don't think it's the cost of the buttons and dials. I think it's that the theme is simplicity and svelteness. How many buttons and dials are there on an M10?

It delivers none of the things that interest me about Fuji.

I shoot Fuji for one reason. They give me the UI and ergonomics of a Nikon FM2n on a modern digital body, paired with compact and well built lenses that also feature classic UI. I'm an X-T shooter, but the X-Pro is rather similar except you can swap FM2n for Contax G2 (or Leica M to a lesser extent) in terms of UI on the X-Pro's.

The A7c does deliver compact & FF, something that only the old and rather limited A7 Classics did prior. But in terms of replacing Fuji

I personally can relate to what you are saying about the Fuji, but there are not that many people out there who remember the feel of a Nikon FM2n, or who long to hold one again. There are more people who like the feel and features of their phone when they are taking pictures.

Looks like a nice design. We still don't know the weight...
When they come out with the version with the 90MP sensor (like the Canon rumored...) I will get one for sure!

And there's the fact that I love the dials on my Fuji...and never use them haha. Apart from an easy switch to 'B' or getting ISO off of 'A', I find I love their look and feel and basically that's their functionality, aesthetic. I say this as someone who really likes Fuji cameras. I think the phone crowd (ie. my 14 year old daughter) might be a bit like me...like the look and feel of the Fuji (Sooo retro!) but wouldn't mind it if it functioned like their phone. Who knows, maybe Fuji has hit a sweet spot here.

As time as gone on, I must say that I've become less a traditionalist with cameras, more of one with my lenses. I've been using my father's Batis 135 and I love it, optically, but it would take quite a bit to convince me to buy it myself. Well, it or any other lens without an aperture ring. Also, for landscape use, I just really don't like focus-by-wire lenses. Nothing beats a smooth MF ring with nice throw and a lens that snaps into focus.

The tactile feel and control of a solid, clicky aperture ring is great, functional too. I take a lot of long exposure photos and the ability to quickly adjust aperture manually after I've started the 10s timer sequence is handy. At least once a session I review, make a mental note to adjust aperture, recompose, forget and start my exposure. With exposures in the 1-3m range, if I'm careful I can even adjust it in the first few seconds after the exposure has started with minimal effects. I mean, it's my own incompetence, sure, but it's nice to be able to deal with that incompetence after the fact...

I personally don't care how a camera looks as long as it does what it is supposed to do and stays out of my way when I'm taking photos. This whole retro look thing boggles my mind. I photographed through this whole retro period...rather not go back.

Anyone have fingers that fit between the kit zoom lens barrel and the grip? (see p1 this thread). The image looks suspect.

There is tape covering something on the left front side. The corner EVF looks like a pretty healthy and ugly extrusion. They tried to Leica it down, but what's on the back panel? People are mourning the loss of the front dial, what else was axed for show?

I suspect the back panel will be a combination of RX1 and A6600.

I'm just afraid that there's nothing they could do on that back panel that would make this camera remarkable, at least now I know exactly how my next camera will handle, coming from the a6000 everything looks the same

If it handles like an A6600 I would be fine with that. Fingers crossed for a good quality viewfinder, with decent resolution and optics.

Looking at my A6400. Video button moved to top vs C1? No pop-up flash. Eyepiece looked similar but perhaps different diopter wheel? A second control wheel or tape behind the top wheel on right. Mic/speaker slots?

Looks more like an A6400 grip than A6600. There is more room to the left looking at flash and eyepiece, so to be symmetrical, would expect more on the right but hard to see for sure. Wouldn't hurt to have more spacing between lens bodies and grip. I don't use anything large to mine but could see it being tight with larger diameter ff lenses.

I actually like the handling of the small Sony APS-C bodies when used with small lenses, but I think the price is the real sticking point here. This sort of body will handle well with small primes and a few of the more compact zooms, but beyond that it won't be the best, and that limits its usefulness as an all purpose body. And since it will pull 'small kit' and backup duty, and with this feature set, I don't see the justification for a $2100 asking price.

At $1300 to compete with the RP and the Nikon Z5, I think it would be a great option, but it's a non starter at the rumored price.

To those (here and on SAR) who are upset about the lack of front dial, I would say this camera while missing the front dial is not the same as A6x00 series because it has one extra dial at the right corner which must be the exposure compensation dial. However, I suspect as it is the Sony's way, that dial could be customized to do other tasks. The fact is that in P, A and S modes, one does not need two dials but only one dial for the one parameter to be changed (either the aperture or the shutter speed). So in these modes, the second dial serves as exposure compensation dial. It is only in manual mode where one does need two dials but then in manual mode, one does not need an exposure compensation dials. So the second dial can be used for the shutter speed while the major dial will be used for the aperture.

So it remains to be seen if the custom buttons are all placed in the back or, Sony has omitted them. I hope they haven't omitted them.

I know manufacturers often exaggerate about their new models being 'new concept;, 'revolutionary', 'exceptional', etc.. I really hope Sony has something up in their sleeve when they call it a 'new concept'. It would be partially disappointing if it turns out to Either way, it can still be a great camera if priced right.

I am a strong believer in not believing anything until I can actually read the real specs. I’ll be on the beach when that happens.
