I am pretty excited for this. I shoot a a lot of back country areas for fishing. I could imagine having the A7c inside a small underwater housing and my III for above water.
Thinking the Samyang 18,24,35,45,75 will be a killer combo to save weight on a small setup. Hell even the Tamron 28-75.

I agree, I can’t believe Sony would release a camera like that in 2020. Maybe an old prototype out in the wild enclosed in a crappy A6000 body, or maybe a plant just to punk SAR.
I think sony has learned a lot about ergonomics and I’d hope they’d do better. I love the size of the A6X series but the ergonomics has been horrible. They can do better. The GRII/III is one of the best ergonomic cameras regardless of size, a real photographer’s camera, achieved in a fraction of the size. And my current X100V is a pleasure to use in hand, just gets out of the way. I always feel like I have to fight the A6x to get what I want.

I think once you try to limit the FF to a compact for factor, then the FF advantage over something like a Fuji setup goes away. Fuji f1.4 and f1.2 primes are same size or smaller compared to f1.8 or f2 lenses from Sony and Nikon. For example you can look at the following link to see A7III with FE85mm1.8 against X-T3 with 56mm f1.2 and X-E3 with 56mm 1.2:
Similarly an f2.8-4 zoom for fuji is similar or smaller compared to a f4-5.6 zoom for FF. So unless you use larger and heavier lenses on FF, you won't see any advantage in terms of high ISO capability and DOF control.
Of course FF will still offer higher base ISO DR, so for something like landscape shooting the advantage would still be there. However at that point you would be looking at using a tripod and other accessories and the size difference between say A7III and A7c becomes less relevant.
This is not to say that I am not interested in and excited about a compact FF camera, but just want to point out that I don't think the advantage is as significant as you might imagine....Show more →
If manual focus is alright, there are Voigtländer FE 21/1.4, 35/1.2, 40/1.2 and 50/1.2.

I don't know why people get so compartmentalized in one camp or the other. Personally I use a Fuji APS-C system, and a Sony FF (RX1RII) and a Nikon FF DSLR. Each one has its own tradeoffs. If you tell me FF is categorically better than APS-C I would argue against it. If someone says APS-C is all anyone needs and FF is not needed, I would argue against that as well.
I also have different camera brands, but have started to gravitate to only Sony. It's a real pain traveling with two compete lay incompatible systems, really adding weight and bulk. For example, my main camera for travel / cultural photography is the A7R3. I used to have a Fuji camera as my light kit to take out when I'm just kicking about not focused onto photography...but that meant extra lenses, batteries, chargers etc... Now my kick around camera is an A6000 which shares lenses with the A7R3. I'll never again travel with two different camera brands...just too much excess bulk / weight.

Definitely I get that - having a single system for all the various scenarios would be ideal and I am hoing this new line of sony compact bodies might help achieve that. My comment was more targeted at the "FF or nothing" mindset.

Like the form factor. Wish it had front dial and custom buttons and more than 24mp. The EVF has to be better than the A7iii or it's a no buy for me. That said I could see just leaving the 35/1.2 on this camera at all times. Maybe throw in the CV21 3.5 in my pocket when I want the most minimal set up.

Looks an awful lot like a Lumix LX100. I'm not in love. These are not the design compromises I was hoping Sony would make. No front dial is a bummer. No custom buttons on top is disappointing. But I will reserve judgement until the full announcement. They better nail the price.

I read a lot of disappointment here. And to me it looks like a lot of people here expects this new camera to be the "A7IV".
Let's see another way: prices are getting higher with the release of new camera. A7S3 A7R4 A792 I could not afford none of these... And if we have a A7IV between the A7S3 and the A7RIV, (I mean an A7S3 with 24mp and less video capabilities) it won't be priced under 3000 euros for sure.
OTOH what we got soon is an A7III, nearly at the same price, but:
smaller
with way better screen (articulated, improved menu, touchscreen)
better AF processing.
We sure will loose some buttons because of the size, and a dual card slot again because of the size I think.
The last thing to know for me is: will the evf be improved.
If it is, well I'm in!

I'm still very interested in this camera. It's a technical achievement to cram IBIS and a full frame sensor into a body so small. But I worry that in their quest to make the camera compact, Sony may have thrown out baby with the bathwater. I want to see it in person and handle it myself before making any decisions. If the performance is respectable and the price is within reason I'll probably pick one up.

On the camera it says «Steadyshot Inside», i.e. IBIS.
There is nothing about «Optical Steadyshot» on the lens. Does this mean that the lens hasn’t got OSS? In that case Sony may have done like Tamron and skipped OSS, maybe for improved image quality in the new kit lens, we could hope. I think that would be a good thing.

Or possibly to save cost on a kit lens.
Hope they sell the camera without lens...not interested in the lens.

This looks exactly like what I need/want. I know people are dissapointed by the resolution and lack of custom dials, but I think a lot of hobbyists wanting to step up from APS-C will be interested. I am for the size and I don't want more resolution than 24mp, a nice happy medium.

This is a camera that could destroy Fuji. I have a few Fujis and this one if it's small enough, it would put all my Fujis in retirement.
It delivers none of the things that interest me about Fuji.
I shoot Fuji for one reason. They give me the UI and ergonomics of a Nikon FM2n on a modern digital body, paired with compact and well built lenses that also feature classic UI. I'm an X-T shooter, but the X-Pro is rather similar except you can swap FM2n for Contax G2 (or Leica M to a lesser extent) in terms of UI on the X-Pro's.
The A7c does deliver compact & FF, something that only the old and rather limited A7 Classics did prior. But in terms of replacing Fuji the A7c delivers nothing that the A6600 doesn't already have except a FF sensor.
And yes, I shoot Sony too (A7II when I want to shoot with my classic lenses).
The A7c looks like a great body, and one I've been arguing for years that Sony needs to do (the A7 in an A6x00 body), but it's not any more of a Fuji killer than the A6600 is. Different targets and there's room for both in the market today.
The A7c might replace the A7II for me, but no way it would replace my Fuji's, just not the same sort of camera at all.
