Since I purchased my original R5 last year, I've been predominantly using it as my wildlife camera. It replaced my 1DX2. With its 20 fps in ES, AF capabilities, and 45 MP sensor attached to my 600mm f/4 II, I've never once missed my 1DX2 for wildlife shooting.
However, with the unfortunate pandemic situation, I never had an opportunity to use my then-new camera for the type of shooting I love most: travel photography.
Well, finally I had an opportunity to get away! My wife and I just returned from a three-week holiday in Italy. We stayed in Venice, the Cinque Terre, and Rome. I managed to take over 12,000 photos. Despite some minor pandemic restrictions and hurdles, it was a fairly normal trip.
I love the R5 so much that I decided to buy a second one before we left. Since I am not sure when/if we will get to travel again any time soon, I decided to go all out with equipment this time. I brought:
- two R5s;
- 5DsR;
- EF 24-70 II;
- EF 11-24;
- EF 100-400 II; and
- RF 85 f/1.2.
I predominately shot with the R5s, switching only occasionally to the 5DsR, which always had the 100-400mm lens attached. I kept one R5 with the 24-70 on it, and the other with the 11-24. When I felt like being really creative, or wanted portraits of my wife, I switched one of the R5 bodies to the 85mm.
The R5s performed incredibly well. I am so impressed with how much dynamic range these cameras have. I predominantly shot in mechanical or EFSC, and those 14 bit RAW files do not disappoint!
At this point, I’ve only gone through a few hundred images. Here are a few shots that I feel comfortable sharing so far.

No way would I have brought the 5DsR;- EF 100-400 II - RF 85 f/1.2.
I would have thrown in the RF 50 f1.8 but hey that's me
Thanks!
I had some specific use cases for those lenses. I kept a lens on the 5DsR so I didn't have to waste time switching lenses. It all worked out carrying the three cameras, especially since I was using the Mindshift Rotation 180 backpack.

Some from this morning with the R5 and RF 14-35mm f/4L:
Great looking set Jordan. Did you do a 2 frame focus stack on that first image? If not, what aperture did you use?
Let me know when you want to get rid of that lens. I'll happily take it off your hands.
Yes, I did. It's two shots at f/11. If you want it, just place an order at LensRentals....since that's where this one is from. I have it until Monday...just rented it so I could review it.
