I shot swimming for years and always used spot on all of my 1d series cameras. We've been locked down with no sports for over a year and with the innovation of the R5 I was curious if F+T would work at all? I was doubtful and appreciate the information.
I used spot with my 1DxII and my 1DxIII. I think the smaller size helps it lock on to the swimmer and not grab the water droplets most of the time. I haven't been able to get FT to work on breaststroke either. It seems to grab the face in the EVF, but when you look at the images, they are all slightly off.
A Practice shot on a series I am working on. I would like to do a panoramic with a T/S Lens. I don't have a lot of experience stitching them however, but I am going to give it a whirl soon.
The second one is also a test. I have a bunch a parameters I want for the final shot which will be difficult. Late afternoon sun, cloudless sky, wet road. That is going to be tough.
No swallows here to practice flight shots on here in central Indiana. However, I have been able to practice on some Lapland Longspurs and some Horned Larks recently. It's much easier to get these birds in focus and easier to track then with the 100-500, but I wanted to photograph them with the 600III with and without the 1.4XIII. These birds were flying generally against a fairly easy background, but I was very happy with trying to photograph them. They were coming in from out in the middle of an ag field to a seed pile.
This little guy or gal decided to come out of his/her watery hole and enjoy the first above freezing day in a while. Experienced my second ever R5 "hang" and again it was after using the 100-400 lens. Frozen EVF display and it reset after switching the power off.
I had my first R5 freeze today in a long, long time. All I did is wake the camera from sleep, put it to my eye, started to focus with Eye-AF on a hummingbird, EVF froze. I flipped out my LCD (which was turned in towards the camera) and the way I have the camera setup that automatically switched to the LCD and unfroze the camera. No idea what caused that freeze.
