Latest video by Gerald Undone. More than the overheating issue, the key issue he highlights seem more to be the Recovery time....
Regarding Photography…quote taken from the video.....
I literally have nothing to say about these cameras from a photographic capabilities standpoint and as someone who naturally finds problem with everything, take that to mean the highest praise.
Gerald Undone latest video: GOOD Cameras, TERRIBLE Marketing.

There may be a facet Mr. Undone missed about the marketing comment. Maybe it was great marketing ?? Suppose Canon omitted 8K .. the R5 would be whatever the R5 is. But there could be half the video reviews that way. And that would be half the reviews stating what a great photography camera the R5 has become. Even Undone had praise for it. But there may be double reviews, most stating it's good for photography. But now add to that the reality that ONLY the R5 offers any 8K video.
Gerald said don't get it for 8K. But that's where Gerald's tech thinking crumbles. His weak mental link. Some people can enjoya few minutes here and there of 8K. Maybe in the same way I use my EOS R for about 1 hour of video in the entire year. Probably more for others.
So it may be hard to judge whether it was effective marketing or not. And it may be better to keep "good" and "effective" in their own corners. Leaviing 8K our would not have made the R5 better for video. But putting 8K in it multiplied the ears hearing about photo stills, IBIS and ergonomics.
I still wonder how it would have been if Canon advertised it as a 4K body, but advertising a firmware OPTION enabling extra minutes of 8K for those who choose.

Gerald Undone latest video: GOOD Cameras, TERRIBLE Marketing.
The problem is people are trying to rewrite history. When it was first leaked that the R5 would have 8K video no one believed it. There were numerous guesses on how Canon was going to fake doing 8K. All of them basically said it wouldn't be REAL 8K, it would be some sort of trick.
Then the specs were released. And people jumped from "It's a lie!" to "OMG, I can record feature length movies in 8K on a compact, mirrorless, weather-sealed body! Canon must have broken several laws of physics. Amazing!"
As it turns out the R5 improved the available video capabilities in two major ways (compared to what Canon usually offers). One, there's full frame 4K. Do a historical Google search on "Canon" and "cropped video" and you will see lots and lots of angry people. This full frame 4K is 4K30. Two, there's a bunch of cutting edge modes like 8K, 4K120, 4kHQ (downsampled 8K). These modes are heat limited. It is important to repeat that if the camera reaches the thermal limit in one of the cutting edge modes you can always switch back to 4K30 or stills--the camera does not brick.
People have latched onto the "Canon Marketing Lied!" meme but honestly the exaggeration came from people looking at the specs. Did any professional really think a small, weather-sealed body could record unlimited 8K video with no heat issues? YouTube "influencers" were duped but well...

Regarding the R5 and various reviews .. suppose folks considered another hypothetical to frame the 8K commentary.
What if Canon had given the camera 50 fps shooting for photo .. but for only 30 seconds within an hour ??
People would joke about how the camera's fast frame rate only lasts "fricken" seconds. But others would say, "damn ... leave it in there, I'll figure out a time to use it !!"

Pretty thorough review of the R5 for birds in flight, this is really selling me on this camera. There's a gallery of samples in the description too, really, really impressive.

I agree. Excellent review. I was really happy to hear him say....
“No Blackout. None!!!“
“The R5’s autofocus system surpasses the A9II’s, especially the animal eye autofocus. It’s amazing. I was shocked...”
This is coming from someone that was recently shooting with a Sony A9II. He also previously shot with 1DX MKII so he provides a very well rounded viewpoint.
This video got me really excited that I had previously preordered the R6. I cannot wait to use that camera.

I was shocked to hear him say that, but the guy has shot both...

This type of review that I can't imagine coming from the likes of folks like Gerald Undone.
It's more like how this race car feels in my hands, hugs the corners and maneuvers on the track vs. hook up the diagnostics computer and monitor the readings.

The R5 is fixed at 20 fps in e shutter. The A9II can be set at 10 but I don’t know if any other options are available. Why does Canon only offer 20? Just figured that would be what users want. Could a FW update provide more options?

Best review I've seen yet. Finally someone who is down to earth and honest about all the good and all the bad. And it really helps me being a fellow A9II owner and a previous Canon DSLR owner like this guy.
I am a little worried about when he tries to use ES on those diving KFs come this winter...but I'm sure he'll keep his A9II around to get the job done in the end

The A9II can be 1, 5, 10, 20. I would have thought the Canon could change this with a FW update but I'm not sure anymore. I think their "blackout free" experience is tied to the 20FPS frame insertion. It isn't a true live feed so if they slow it down it may start to fall apart...that is just my personal theory so who knows. As you know, being forced into 20FPS for ES is a big downside to this camera for me.
