The clue to when the shutter is firing is the shots remaining counter blinks. If that's correct then I see zero blackout in this video for mechanical shutter and the slightest of stuttering - totally acceptable. Am I right?

Remains to be seen, the lag/stutter (whatever we call it) will only start to hinder if you are panning trying to keep the subject in frame. The blackout is neither here nor there as we've all shot with blackout for most of our photography careers with DSLRs.

The R5/6 don't have blackout in ES nor H+(12FPS) MS. They use frame insertion to provide a smoother EVF view and you can see that 20FPS provides a smoother view. However, this blackout free view is not a continuous live feed like it is on the A9. If you drop down to H (8FPS) MS or slower then you get a live feed with shutter blackout. This A7RIV is similar with no live feed at 10FPS but a live feed with blackout at 8FPS.

The other variable is sort of unknown in how much lag is built into the system as a whole. This can vary between cameras and can add to the difficulty in panning with a fast subject while taking shots.

To my eyes the 20FPS ES looks very smooth (as did the 1DXIII ES LV) and I think it will be very easy to use but until you can use it in person and try to track a faster bird, you will never be able to tell as almost all the YT vids show either subjects moving in one position (like a dancer) or coming towards the camera (like basketball) where the camera barely has to pan at all. The one demonstration that has shown panning with a fast bird is the Kingfisher in T&C's video but that was in a slower FPS MS mode which will be the worst the camera can deliver and yeah, it was bad and IMO unusable as Chelsea said. H+ MS 12FPS looks like it will probably be okay but I'm not sold on it yet. The bigger issue for me is unless the ES has a scan read that can prevent distortion of fast birds then I'd have to use MS and I won't be able to use ES (which looks to be the best mode to track and pan with).

Dan Watson from Florida repeated his heat test again, and the Sony A7S iii still shut down faster than the Canon R5. Since the R5 is included, adding this to this thread.

Interesting that most aren’t seeing overheating and he is able to get it. Other well respected video YTs have only found overheating in 4K120. I haven’t watched this latest video but did finally watch his first one.

I have no idea why people are even comparing these cameras anyways. If these hadn’t been released so close to each other I don’t think they would have ever been mentioned in the same review. Two very different camera market segments.

On the one hand, it kind of eliminates the argument that the R5 has a unique and terrible overheating problem, when in fact, it is similar and maybe even slightly better than the Sony to which it’s being compared. Fact is, it is probably not an issue in normal use for most people.

On the other hand, you’re right - they are two very different cameras with different primary purposes. I’m getting an R5, and wouldn’t even be interested in a 12 megapixel body. Video is not my forte, but “pixels-per-duck” is.

I don't know if this has been posted and there are now 30 pages of posts..but since the title page says this was posted 9 hrs ago, I am going to take a chance. It is really encouraging, if true. Fingers crossed:

Thanks for posting. This has me excited that I had previously preordered the R6. Really looking forward to using this version 2 of the Dual Pixel AF system. I shoot mostly people, but I will enjoy taking this out and finding some opportunities to try out the animal AF.

Gerald Undone new live-streaming/ overhearing test for the Canon R5/R6.

This was a 3 hour live stream. Both camera using the over sampled mode (whatever that means). Test was done to see how long you can record externally. Note: the record limit was displayed, but this didn’t affect the recording limit externally. He discussed all the parameters of the test in the video.

Still another reviewer comparing the 4k line skipped video of the EOS R5 against the 8k oversampled video of the R5 without offering a comparison to competing 4k video from other cameras like the GH5 or A7rIV :-)

At minute 11:20 the other fellow talks about using an external device to reduce heating but I'm not sure 8K will work.

Gerald Undone said he ranks the 4K line skipped worse than A7SIII and the 4KHQ better. But I don't know if he mentioned the A7RIV or GH5 or S1H...I was watching his 3hr livestream and wasn't paying attention to half of it

Yeah, it is going to be worse than the A7s III. The question is: Is the 4k non-HQ *good* in absolute terms? I don't care if it isn't the absolute best 4k ever produced by any camera (that is the 4k HQ), if it's usable is the important question, and based on Armando Ferreira's videos, it looks like the answer is definitively yes. But I am curious where it compares in relation to other 4k video from other cameras.
