The only way I can think of to avoid blackout with mechanical shutter would be to insert still frames during the blackout period, which results in the 'slideshow' stutter effect. IMO I find that more distracting than blackout.

He was in yesterdays presentation. Who speaks German?
I understand German fairly well. In his intro in the first 30 seconds, he says he'll introduce you to the best camera of all time.
He said it's the best camera currently, and with the 100-500 is the best combo, for wildlife photographers because of the feature set, AF capability (animal recognition and tracking) and future proofing due to the high resolution and 8K capability. He said a set of two batteries in the grip is sufficient for him for a day of shooting, but didn't say how many captures that would be. Later he mentioned downloading 100GB of images very quickly from the CFE card.
He likes the 100-500 because of the size, weight and image quality combination. f/7.1 is acceptable for these reasons and he's not hesitant to shoot the R5 at ISO 12000 when necessary.
He's very keen on the animal tracking, which he says is very sticky. He can initiate lock-on from far distances and the camera will keep focus as the bird approaches and moves throughout the frame, therefore no longer necessary to concentrate on keeping it on an AF point.
Build quality is at 5D level and approaches the 1D series. He wishes Canon included backlit buttons and the new AF controller/joystick of the 1DXIII.
At the very end of the video he teases that he's heard there's more to come...

@ Zenon Char
Today he introduces for AC-Foto (german photo dealer) the best camera of all times (his words).
1:55 "I can say honestly:"This is the game changer. For wildlife photography and filming industrie for the next years. That piece is really just genius. The camera is exactly as tough like a 1DX in haptic, build, all is sealed like it is with 5D MK IV etc.
At 2:20 he starts to talk about the 100-500.
Sorry, but it gets boring to repeat this marketing stuff. If you have a special question, please tell me the time, where it starts.

Digital is probably crops in a bit?
Yeah, pretty sure digital IS crops. I think it looked pretty good but compared to the gimbal, I felt like there was a bit of funky stuff happening in the digital stabilized footage around the edges. Might also have been due to him filming with such a wide lens. Question is whether it would be obvious or noticeable in standalone footage (i.e. would a client notice)?

This should not be misunderstood as critics. The guy seems to be very sympatic and I would trust his words so far. But this video is just advertising stuff for the german dealer and Canon.
I guess we will be able to watch dozends of such "info" videos the next couple of days/weeks.
Much more important is to read tests about personal experiences of those who did NOT get a body long before it was introduced or went into sales. And even more important should be to wait until it lands in your own hands and you might check it based on your own needs.

Thanks Ralph. Besides a few of the video heating things being discussed the other big one is blackout while burst shooting. We have seen electronic examples that look pretty good but it appears mechanical is a little vague. Things are moving so fast right now I may have missed any info on it.

What is wrong with "blackout" while using the mechanical shutter? This is how it always has been since DSLRs exist. When the shutter is closed no light hits the sensor. What else you would like to see than a blackout?

Unfortunately you are not going to see many meaningful reviews from people who are not affiliated to Canon in any way, as the production cameras have not landed on our shores yet.
