For German speakers, quite photo centric, adds some practical information vs Sony A7Riii. Very German style, without drama, very positive as a primary Sony user.

Jan Wegener (Bird Photographer). just did another good review. This time ir is on the Electronic shutter for the Canon R5 and if it is usable for action photography.

At the 11:00 minute mark, he said that you can dial back the frame rate in ES mode i.e. you are not stuck at 20 fps. Is this correct?

No that is not correct. He is mistaken. You can change the H, H+ but it makes no difference to the ES FPS.
I'm not sure if he was just meaning you can fire off short bursts or that you can shoot in One-Shot and fire a few shots at a time?

A video that shows another interesting workaround for video overheating record limit.

Interesting review.

The comments were unique. Many thankful. But several from photographers beating their chest and getting bent out of shape about what he shared.

I just happened to find one of his written articles two days ago about selecting lenses for the EOS R5 and enjoyed reading through.

mdvaden,

When I first started that video I thought maybe I should just do something else with my time, but the more I listened to him the more I agree. I do very little video, but if I were doing a lot of video, and wanted to do so in 8K, I'd only use the R5 for simple "B-roll" stuff. Maybe a crash camera?

But I made up my mind about this camera's value to me even before I recieved mine and just waved off all of the hand-wringing about overheating during video.

I've only had mine for two days and I absolutely love this camera. It is so smart, and so effective that I swear the Village Idiot could go "pro" in a week or two of using it.

It's an absolutely wonderful camera and mine is going to make me money starting on Tuesday.

On the first note ..

I was surprised about that reviewers lack of enthusiasm at the end to buy the camera. The way he usually reasons, it seemed out of character for him somewhat.

On the second note ..

Agreed, from what I've seen the camera is superb and can make money. Last year for example, one single image that took 4 hours to acquire, plus 6 big prints without frames, netted me almost 1/2 what the R5 would cost. Do that twice and the body is paid for. And that's a mere fraction of the use and capabilities of the body.

It's actually more than I need, but has a few features I would enjoy. In a way, it's 70% luxury and 30% need. To the end I may spend months waiting to acquire it. But the R5 could be like the last body I ever need aside from whether it may wear out.

mdvaden,

Most of my work is for magazines so I sure don't need 45 megapickles! But the images look so nice, and they certainly allow me to crop without worry. I do sell a fair number of prints as well, and I'm reminded all of the time that one doesn't need the latest and greatest high megapixel camera in order to create wonderful prints. Staring at me from the other side of my desk are huge prints of Grizzly bears and Dall rams done at 20 mp, and off to one side on another wall is a huge pano done with my 30mp 5DIV.

All that said, I'm giddy about this R5. Starting Tuesday I really get busy here in Alaska and my cameras will be working hard. I plan on carrying that R5 way up into the mountains when I go up soon to photograph Dall rams and celebrate my 71st birtday after a tough climb up over 5,000 feet in the Alaska Range.

I"m a happy photographer, but I did have to hunt around to find an EF to R adapter, othersise I'd only have the RF 24-105 to use.

Never realized Rockwell was on Youtube ..

Note the 1456 shots taken with 92% battery charge ramaining !!

Some of the photo samples he shows show some excellent detail, especially to demo what's a non-L lens.
