I couldn't even tell a difference with his mushy 1080p footage with his test setup. Why doesn't he record real footage and show us how unusable 4k30 is?

You know what I think ...

Northrup saw his original files .. and we didn't.

He's conveying an experience he probably can't fully show on Youtube. Tony is far from my favorite reviewer, but I'd wager if some footage he saw was as good as he says, its worth believing it looks good. Although he and Chelsea don't know everything, I doubt they'd say something was exceptional unless it really was compared to something else they experienced. Likewise with aspects they didn't like as much.

That was informative.

I can spend the money on the R5 but am more tempted by the R6 (will miss the OLED top display).

It concerns me that the 400 mm f/4 DO mark 2 is not on this list.

He still needs to let us know what he thinks is "mushy". I might think that is perfectly fine. These days Tony is all over the map....first he declared the future is 4k, then he went back to 1080p after declaring it a failure, and now, apparently, he is willing to go back to 4k. He thinks the 7DM2 is the best Canon body for wildlife and that the D850 is the best overall body for wildlife. Even in 2020. And he has given no a sketchy justification for these statements. I think this is extremely lazy.

He could easily put up a video switching between what he calls mushy and good video. They don't even need to be long clips, either. I don't want to have to take anyone's word for anything. Even Fro is smart enough to put up files where people can see for themselves. Other reviewers do the same thing.

Not in English. 2:37 and 2:43 are mechanical. 3:00 is Electronic. The next two are the A7R4. We don't now if he turned the EVF review off or was he using 120 fps refresh rate.

&feature=emb_logo

Minute 5:30. I think this was posted at FM. He claims he tracked a Cheetah in mechanical. He is an Explorer of light.

It is somewhat concerning but it is listed on the same list on the Japanese Canon site so I think this will have a positive conclusion....

Actually, even Fro was smart enough .. dumb enough ... to have to change and clarify stuff on the EOS R in 2018. So Northrup can basically start wherever he wants, and clarify at his leisure. If your not paying him to work for you, his channel is his gig, just like my channel is my gig.

On second play, I was curious what he meant by "mushy", but he left no question what features he felt were exceptional . In that regard, Northrup added one more building block to his monthly collection of opinion.

For those that are interested, here’s a rolling shutter test of the R5 vs the newly announced Sony A7S III:

It’s the 7:30-8 min mark.

The R5 wins.

Really great comparison of overheating with the R5 vs the A7S III in the above video too at approximately the 10 min. mark.

Summary:
IBIS is better in R5
Rolling shutter too.
In some situation, the a7sIII overheat before the R5.
As hybrid camera, the a7sIII doesn't even compete.

If you see Jared Polin video:
IQ is better and sharper from camera in R5.

All of this in the best video mode from both camera, 8k 3... oo sorry, my mistake. 4k something.

Kisses.

wonder where he dug up a cheetah at full speed (they'd need to be in a serious hunting attempt in the wild to see that), considering no one can really get to Africa right now..

My understanding is he's comparing general stutter/blackout of an R5 to his experience photographing cheetahs with a 1Dx3 (presumably some time ago). I didn't hear him explicitly say he was photographing cheetahs with an R5, but could see how that could be seen as implied.

He first talks about the 1DX mirror slap and then not an issue with a little bit of stutter "as we are following it". It is in one sentence.
