Haven't watched all of the TN video but just made it to the 1:18 mark where he shows a kingfisher sequence...no where near Sony A9 performance but I understand that the old 500 and a 2xTC isn't "fair" like Tony points out.
However, I basically turned the video off at the 1:19 mark after Tony claims the Kingfisher shots were in focus, zooms into one frame and the shot is so OOF I wouldn't even need to go 1:1 in order to hit the "X" key in LR....maybe I'll watch the rest later but seriously, this better not be the performance with a newer EF lens or RF lens and Tony needs glasses. ...Show more →
Heck it is not even the performance of the Eos R and with using a 2x also

That's why he jumped on the couch where Chelsea was chilling out, to give him 'voice of reason' as he calls it. He is so hyped with the new camera (like a lot of folks with every new launch) that he can see nothing but the good. I can tell you, after spending thousands and thousands in Canon gear, I'm sceptic until I have tested it myself. But that's mutual to your situation I suppose. You can test them side by side with the a9, so I'd like to hear from you which camera performs better regarding AF tracking when you get the chance.

You can see the white bracket crop lines showing that the AF is not 100% coverage. With that setup, however, it is still larger than the RF600 and RF800. f8 vs f11.

Guys - the 500 f4 IS mki they're using does not support 12 fps in H+ continuous mode and they're also using a 2x teleconverter, hence the blackout and lag. The 500 f4 is II is supported according to the manual. Don't jump to conclusions based on their 20 year old lens. They also didnt show the electronic shutter 20fps mode which doesn't have any blackout.

Wow! You guys are like a big ray of friggin sunsine aren't you.
I know I'm not at your caliber and my "current" gear pals in comparison to yours, but I do try my damnedest to get a few shots of some slow BIF action with my poor little 90D.
Matter of fact, I was out just this morning with it trying to get practiced up for next weekend when I hopefully have a big boy camera to play with.
Got a couple of shots. And just to make Geoff happy, I made sure to only click when they were facing the camera this time.

Yeah, only real men shot with a 90D.
1DXIII & A9's are for girls.
Thanks Pius! I appreciate it.
Did you need microadjustment with the 100-400? I shot with the 90D and my 600mm f4 mkII last fall and failed to check that. BIG mistake. The same lens adapted onto my A7R4 yielded tack sharp results.

I have AFMA'd on all my lenses but I don't recall off the top of my head what the 100-400II needed. I've been fortunate with all my lenses in that none of them needed more than +-5 or so.
This is one thing I'm very much looking forward to with the R5. No more of that crap to deal with.

Something worth mentioning since there have been reports of 1-hour battery time. I wonder how many early testers are DSLR shooters, and they keep the camera on (and therefore IS + IBIS) between shots and while walking around with it. Ever since moving to mirrorless with first the GFX, it became second nature to flip the camera on as I raised it to shoot and off as I lowered it after shooting.

You know how we can cross-post between the internal forums here and on most sites? Wouldn’t it be epic if sites that ran the same forum software could get together and agree to allow cross-posting between sites? And if a post was started say here at FM, an admin at Canon Rumors could request a merge with a thread there. So you’d see a comment, “from [username] via [site name] in the post header. Sure would be cool since we’re often having to do this like a game of Twister through several conversations across sites.

Harder to do that with the power switch on the left, but I get your point.
