It is just slightly, slightly front focused off the eye....Topaz would easily save it and no one would know but just like all cameras (even the A9) you still need some insurance shots when shooting that narrow a DOF because just the tiniest shifts front or back can render the critical eye just slightly off.

I am a fan of Topaz, but it can make a bird look unnaturally sharpened, and this one is. But, you didn't have much choice as you were processing an already sharpened jpeg, and Topaz doesn't work well on them. A burst on a DSLR usually has enough latitude to cover a small variation of focus in these circumstances to give your insurane, but I don't know how consistent the R5 focus would be.

The speed of the eye AF on RF 85mm f1.2 is amazing. Kids are tough to shoot at that age. Did a family portrait shoot for a friend, ain't fun.

Now I want to sell my EF85mm f1.2 II for the RF version. Got the RF50mm 1.2 at launch, sold the EF 50mm f1.2. No regrets.

B&H interview with Rudy at Canon talking about EVF and sensor notes.

At about 41:00 mark they are talking about the DR. Kevin said from his hands-on observations that he thinks it's on par or better than anything out there. Rudy mentions that Canon expects them to be about 1 stop better than the 5D4 but they will let independent testers come up with actual numbers.

When they started talking about the AF tracking later on is when my hands started getting all sweaty.
I can not wait to get my hands on this thing. By far this is the most exciting thing I look forward to experiencing with the R5. Not to mention not having to worry about AFMA all my lenses/bodies anymore.

Looks like he got 20-21 out of 24 frames sharp on the eye during the one burst of the little guy running at the camera.

I suck badly at shooting people so this kind of tech is going to help me beyond words.

How is the RF 50 vs EF 50? Sharper wide open?

I suck badly at BIF so this kind of high-tech bird-eye AF will instantly transform me into the consummate BIF shooter.

Yes. I think the overall IQ is better and AF quicker too. With EF/RF adaptor on, the EF 50 is about the same length as RF50.

RF is much sharper. And the RF 50 is sharp to the edges at infinity at f/1.2 and doubles as a landscape lens (f/2–f/8 being the sweet spot for infinity – increased contrast and reduced vignetting).

I downloaded all 7 dng files, at 1/800 4 out of the 7 where not bad, think he should have had the shutter speed higher for that kid. Shutter speed 1/800 still to slow in my books using atomos... ones at 1/640 sucked...

Yes

Specially the kid is not too far from the camera, any movment will have a large angle.

The speed of movement may not be high but the angelar speed is high

CANON EOS R5 Human Eye AF: WOW...WATCH OUT SONY!!! (w/ RAW FILES)

This what Fro had to say... :
After posting the Animal Eye Af test the other day, people requested I try regular eye af on a moving subject. This time around I used the Canon EOS R5, RF 70-200, RF 24-70, RF 15-35 and RF 85 1.2 at 1.2. So how did it do? I think it’s time for Sony to take notice of what Canon has been able to do.

You are naughty. I was trying to convince myself that I do not need a 50 and an 85 and a 70 to 200 - all RF. Along with 15-35 obviously 🍿
