Jared's videos are entertaining and Canon knows he gets the attention. His extinguisher was a mockery of the people complaining about overheating not a mockery of Canon, especially if you know his previous videos on the subject. It's easy to draw the wrong conclusions without proper background knowledge.
Tony and Chelsea, on the other hand.... Canon wouldn't send them anything after their combined tirade about the overheating and how Canon never sent them preproduction models to evaluate. They sounded very bitter in their video.
I suppose so. I have seen his videos and I like his work. I can see after being shipped but during pre-order. I guess Canon are better sports than I thought.
As for Tony. I'm still getting over his EF/RF prototype lens mount he built out of cardboard.

I think during the Roller take off he has just spliced in the frames he recorded off an Atmos. Most of the other footage is played real time as one would see it through the EVF or LCD. But that take-off sequence was deliberately slowed down into the video I think. The AF losing the Roller's head is no big deal...Sony can't do any better than that on a takeoff and sometimes can't even keep it on the bird during a takeoff..
The low-light ability to see the lion and hyena was impressive.
Overall the Animal Eye-AF looks really well done.
However, when he was slowly panning with the lion and actively shooting right near the beginning (25s mark) I could see the frame insertion stutter in the ES mode. So it is going to be an issue to some degree. I've got to find a way to rent this camera and see for myself.
I do agree though that this AF will likely outperform any Canon DSLR that came before excepting the 1DXIII in LV. And having the Animal/Eye AF will certainly take it past even the 1DXIII for those subjects....Show more →
Do we know if he had the EVF is Smooth or Normal mode?

Sure it does better than any Canon dslr before. I doubt it does it better than the 1dxIII in live view though. But the animal eye af is still absent in the XIII. It is definitely a camera I would take on Safari. I have missed some epic moments in the past with slightly off focused shots on cheetah and leopards. So in that case it will be an addition. But fast BIF, I'm not so sure what to do yet.

Sorry for bumping. We are seeing this all these videos via the LCD. Long ago I watched a video about the R that said to turn silent LV shooting and image review off to help with lag. I turned mine off and I'm not sure how much it helped but I have been shooting this way for a long while. I manually press review if I want to look at the images. I'm not sure if this would help the R5 & 6. I also rarely use the LCD but I'm not sure how many do for BIF? Is a little blackout for very slow moving objects an issue?
For BIF isn't it about what is happening in the EFV? I don't think there has been any video or mention of that. I'm referring to the refresh rate we can control. High Speed Display didn't do much for the R - IMO. The R5 and 6 have the Smooth setting that increases EVF refresh rate to 120 fps.
Am I on track here or completely off. If off don't be afraid to let me know. It is how I Iearn. I had heard about readout speed but never explored or cared about it until recently.

I am not afraid. It looks like all other members are afraid 😂
All EVF will have lag. It takes time to process data from the sensor. The only way to make the lag not noticible is to shorten the time of the processing.
Refresh rate when high it only prevents jagging or sudden movements. High refresh rate with low horsepower processor will not prevent lagging.

This video is on animal AF using R5 on a safari. The channel is from a South African safari company. They do seminars in Adorama once in a while.
That is insane. Seems like EF performance with eye-AF is top notch.

If the tracking of animals with black head or dark area around the animal eye(like demonstrated in some videos) , and in some cases the eye tracking took place in low light, then this noval dual pixel technology is very impressive. Even if the c-af and focus calculation frequency not as good as the sony a9, it will be impressive enough if verified by more nutral photographers.
Apology for being suspecious. I got in troubles before depending on some youtubers feed back, and that will not hapen again to me.
The low light focusing of the Nikon z7 even for stationary objects was disapointing.

Has anyone studied any footage that shows human eye detection and whether or not you gain ability to select which eye?
I saw in one of the reviews the box on the eye would sometimes have the arrow indicating you can switch eyes. But the system was reacting so quickly as the subject was rotating that the eye-AF box was switching back and forth to the closest eye with incredible accuracy and speed. Basically once it detects both eyes on a face, it's tracking the depth data between the two and automatically switching.
