p.11 #1 · R5/6 lag/blackout

The reason I ask is this person claims this is through the EVF in E mode. If the readout speed is 19ms or 1/30 and I'm shooting at 1/1000 what happens in that gap. Frame insertion I imagine adjusts as shutter speeds change. The A9 II is 6ms or 1/160 so it deals with the same thing. Still a big gap between 1/1000.

Sorry for my dumb questions. I'm trying understand this before I spend $10,000 on the wrong thing

I have question and I hope I get this right. Based on readout speed we should see the same thing in the EFV using either M or E shutter. The EVF will receive the data just as quickly in both modes? The only difference is the mechanical shutter closing, which is obvious.

I actually don't know how things will look.

For instance on the A7RIV you get different things going on in the EVF in M and E and it also depends on what FPS you set.
If you set H+ (10FPS) then you don't get a live EVF feed in either M or E. If you set H (~7.5FPS) you bet a live feed in M with the shutter blackout and I think you get a live feed in E also but not sure.

So I really don't know what the R5 will do. I have a pretty good idea what it does in E because there is no way to lower the FPS...we've seen this on the 1DXIII and we've seen it in a number of these R5 preview videos. How it behaves in M and if FPS changes anything is what I'm not clear on.

No problem. I’m just speculating because there isn’t much to do before the readout specs and a few more production model reviews come out.

There is lots of time and there won’t be any decisions before all the information is available.

Getting into how MLIC works is interesting. Thanks for your help again.

What I find puzzling is the R6 won’t be released until September and Jordon Drake got what I imagine is a production R6. The R5 ships soon. I can see the techs working 24/7 hammering out the final FW details.

Jared Polin has a production copy of the R6 too.

Canon is sending out limited numbers of production R5 and R6 units with likely the newest firmware (update mentioned a week ago) to get more publicity from those that aren't paid Canon shooters. It seems they have to return these units once they are done with their reviews.

That he's still a jerk.
That three raw files are available for download (one R5 two R6)
That ISO 4000 on the R5 doesn't suck at all, and neither does the 800, apparently.

$12,000 600mm vs $900 800 lens. F11 doesn't suck wind.

If I stay with Canon I'll eventually pick up the 800.

900 dollar lens would probably pair nice with a 1200 dollar camera but it seems like you need the $4000 / $2500 dollar camera to make the lens focus on small section of the sensor...
Not sure that's a great deal for consumer... But you have to give it to Canon for their marketing skills...

It is smart marketing. How many people will be able to afford the 800 and how many a 600 f4 III? Ratio of 500 to 1? Get some revenue up front and then release the big whites.

I'm going for the 100-500 if it gets good reviews instead of trying to snag a used 400mm DO II. Then I will move from the R to the R5.

I think those f11 lens will still work OK with RP or R. Not going to Get 12fps or animal AF. They don't work with IBIS anyway, so that won't change.
