Perhaps better control using just single finger on sharp edges.

Now that looks better than anything I've seen in the 40 and 50 wide open. I've had both of them. I could not get that sharp wide open. Question is do we wait for the FE version

Can someone who has this new 35/1.2 III
take a mid distance wide open shot and a 50 at 1.8, side by side (using same framing).
Use whatever 50 you like, as long as its at 1.8

I'm actually loving this lens Guy. One more from the 'forced' walk with the kids. (They were not happy )

Perhaps I'm overlooking something here.

I assumed it was there for a cine geared ring, but if SE means Stills Edition, I don't know.

If we assume it is not for aesthetics:

Perhaps the gully allows the meat of of both fingers greater purchase? Perhaps to make up for the loss of the large knurling on other lenses?

Is there video focusing gear that can utilize the space?

Does it allow you to attach a video focus ring to one and allow the other to remain free for direct focus?

I don't know much about video gear.

Maybe Voigt made a non-linear MF ring to match Sony's awesome FBW MF experience

Here are 3 pairs, shoot handheld so not exactly the same handling. Only some minor exposure adjustments and sharpening done in post. The Voigtländer 35 f/1.2 is the first one in all 3 pairs

hmm that is quite a difference, the 35/1.2 has much more 3d and noticeably better "micro contrast" visible in these small samples.
also didn't expect there to be as much fov difference...
now what 50 was this?

thanks for the samples!

This is quite true, though we have to regard certain things.
First of all - we don`t know ( yet at least ) which kind of 50mm lens he used to take these samples and how the sharpness, micro contrast and rendering qualities of this 50mm lens do in general.
The second thing that comes to my mind is the perspective which could cause a much more pronounced 3d effect on the 35mm lens, since it is always closer to the major subject in the foreground and relatively to this distance the background is further away, thus causing more separation there between foreground and background.
Anyway - nice samples!
Would be great to see even more and to know which 50mm lens he used

The 50 is the Leica-M 50mm Summilux 1.4 ASPH but I am a little surprised that this now is a comparison between specific lenses, I thought the request more had to do with DoF and perhaps focus fall-off since "any" 50 would do.

I need to get my eyes checked, I saw the complete opposite.

Agree - I wasn't sure if it was related to exposure or not.

In any case, no question, the 50 is exhibiting higher contrast.

Higher contrast and warmer. The CV has a cooler blue rendering in these sets.

Is the WB identical Joahkim?

Sorry, no I didn't think of checking it so all photos are shot with AWB. For the first two pairs though it almost the same but for the last pair the temp for the 35 is 5050 while it is 5200 for the 50

After this I decided to take a look at these again on a different monitor(less pixel dense) AND you are right the 50 does have more contrast, but the 35 still looks to exhibit more 3d to me.

What hoods, if any, are you guys using for your fast 1.2 Voigtlander lenses? The original ones or some specific OEM brand? I am often walking around in the forrest with my camera over the shoulder so I like to have a hood on to protect the front glas aside from avoiding flare

I bought the official CV accessory LH-8 hood for my 35/1.2 III VM. It was relatively expensive but I like it a lot. With the E-mount 40/1.2 and 50/1.2 I'm using the hoods that were included in the box with the lenses.
