Finally got a chance to take the lens out of the box. It seems pretty great in limited testing. I find it a little harder to get focused than the 40, due to the wider fov making your subject technically a little harder to see. Hopefully I’ll get more play time with it soon. That wide open vignette is something serious. I’ve never had the urge to correct it before on a lens, and I exclusively use fast lenses. I guess that’s the price of small size mixed with ultra fast apertures

Difficult background for any lens. Great set!
It looks like the first one was back-focused.

Been in the house way too long with the boss , she got her eye on all of the cash. Lol
Maybe just one. Love to pick out my retirement kit and call it quits but not sure I can do that yet.

Then I think the 50 f/2 APO is probably the obvious one to get. I don't think you will want to be giving that one up and it can be another piece of your retirement kit, pretty much for sure. I think long term the Sigma 14-24 f/2.8, Voigtlander 50 f/2 APO, and Sony 135 f/1.8 GM are all keepers.

Fred, what's your final thoughts about this last iteration of the Voigtlander 35 versus the Zeiss Distagon 35 zm?
Context: I used a 35 Canon f2 ltm for years on my LeicaMP mostly in black and white/TriX, but after trying the Summilux 35fle now I'm searching a more fast/modern alternative as I shoot a lot more in color now. (Not a fan of the Biogon/Hexanon alternatives but perhaps I'm missing something ; right now I hesitate between the Distagon and a V3/V4 Summicron, and this new Nokton Asph : compactness, weight and price were before my first priorities, but now my work is more professionnal and I would like something extremly well build/excellent color rendition on film/and a faster lens than F2 would be lovely) Thanks again guys for all you reviews here.

For those who have the R4 and want to shoot 4:3, the 35 will be close the the 40 on the long edge. How much do I wish they'd add 4:3 to the R3 too, quick firmware solution and would renew some love for that camera.

Still would love to see the same photos taken on any kind of M-mount camera comparing both the CV 35/1.2 II with the CV 35/1.2 III. So far this exact comparison is still missing here in this thread which I personally would find more interesting than comparing it to other kind of similar lenses.

Digging this up instead of opening another thread, I wonder if anyone had a chance to compare both in 1.5 years since the post of @retrofocus.
I have the CV 35/1.2 II and photographing christmas markets at night recently made me wonder if upgrade to III would be worth it. While I love the 35/1.2 II character wide open in certain scenarios (e.g. environmental portraits in good light), I realized that most of the time I have to stop it down to 1.7 to get the desired performance. With christmas lights it is somehow especially noticeable because the combination of low resolution, CA, glow and poor coma performance makes it almost unusable @f1.2-f1.4.
However, reading phillipreeve’s review I am not sure that the new version is that much better at the wider apertures and weight saving alone does not justify the upgrade to me.

I can't compare to version since I don't have it but my v3 at 1.2 is definitely on the soft side. I usually use 1.4 to sharpen things up unless I want the dreamy look. If weight was not a problem, I would look at the Laowa 35/0.95. But again, the Nokton is to me a great balance between performance/size/price.
