Best image size has changed as monitor resolutions and device options and usage evolve, presently I prefer around 1000px wide for square or portrait aspect ratios, and between 1100 and 1350px wide for landscape mode, maybe 1400px for special images. This seems acceptable and file sizes are generally 500-700k, with jpeg quality around 50-65% up the scale, more if a lot of OOF. Larger image sizes work well for detailed content, little smaller for close portraits.
These look great. Shimmering water, an APO specialty.
I own this lens and use it on my Sony a7R IV. It's one of the best performing lenses for sure, but I'm hoping to see a APO-Lanthar 28mm, 35mm or 40mm instead, as I also got a 65mm. It's hard to justify both 50mm and 65mm for me. But I’m keeping both until either a wider APO-Lanthar is announced or a another 1:2 or with close-focus 135-150mm. I paired the 50mm APO with the 110mm earlier but replaced the 110m with the 65mm, as I rarely used the 1:1 magnification and didn't like the focus throw. So that’s why I just want a 1:4 or 1:2. Also got the Voigtländer 21mm f/1.4 Nokton which is fantastic but you have to deal with some field curvature like the Zeiss Loxia 21mm.
Comparison of same-time image, to illustrate rear DOF treatment and separation at f2. Second is technically better, but I like the f2 effect too, and fun to experiment.
I'm sure others may not agree, but so far, the newly acquired apo-lanthar renders (colors, etc) much like my newly acquired Kern macro switar 50mm 1.9. Sharper in the corners and edges than the 50 year old Kern, but color wise so reminiscent. If I get a chance I will try to post samples later.
Would love to see that! kelvination wrote:
