So, similar rendering between 50mm apo lanthar and kern switar. Slightly different focal length apparently, focused near center on all these. Apo lanthar sharper to corners though and less vignetting. Kern is slightly cooler and less saturated, but not that much!
I shot both at F2. kudos to the 50 year old kern switar. So if you want a cheaper sharper to the corners Kern Switar like lense, Apo lanthar is your baby.
Bear in mind, I am not doing anything scientifically, just trying to show what I grokked from th relative imaging rendering qualities of the two lenses ... both real beauties of optic design.
I notice some color drift towards magenta with the corners on my a7R III (vignetting correction off) with this lens. I notice this behavior on a couple of my other lenses as well, so I guess it could be my camera. I had created cornerfix profile to remove it, but I stumbled on another solution, at least it seems. Zeiss UV filters have a pretty hard cut at 410nm, and it seems to remove the drift I was seeing. Still have to do a little more shooting, but it may be worth considering if anyone else notices this behavior with their camera/lens combo.
While arguably there may be some impact to using the filter, it seems so far to be a fair tradeoff.
These are from The Enchantments range in WA, beautiful place but very busy when the weather is warmer. Definitely worth a visit anytime other than late July to early September, when it’s hot and colors are somewhat plain, and not as much snow to get the right feel for alpine photos.

Thanks. I tried for a permit this year, for August, without luck.
I know I'm beating a dead horse here, so apologies in advance. I have the CV 40 1.2, I really do love the images it produces. But there's some about the 50 APO that seems magical to me. Read all the threads on FM, been through Flickr, all of it. With that said, I can't determine if it's GAS or there is something truly, drastically different between these two at similar apertures. Can anyone who has experience with both weigh in? Thanks in advance.

Wow! Moving pictures!
Quickly scrolling though this set of photos is certainly an unusual experience for my eye. A very interesting eye catching effect.

Hello Tim. I don't own the 50/2 APO so I can't check for myself. Also, are you able to post a 50/2 APO color drift example if its not too much trouble or send something to me via PM? Thanks in advance and certainly no worries if not convenient. Just curious as I have been looking for good examples of color drifts for reference.

You are not imagining things. The lens offers great clarity. Not a interesting shot but one that illustrates this:

I will try again but in October.
When were you there and how was the weather?
I took those Oct 22-24 this year. Too late for larches but early enough to not need skis or snowshoes. Got hit with a good storm on the way down, so just be prepared for anything in October! Here’s a short video of what it was like during the storm.
Nothing insurmountable, but definitely need some mountaineering oriented gear, at least a 4-season tent, gear warm to 0F, ice axe, crampons. My permit was for an additional two nights but I had my summer tent to I had to come down early because of the storm rolling in.

Thanks for the info.
Quite the storm. I think I will give October a try; I love the snow and lack of crowds.
