Along with 50mms, 35mms are the bread and butter 'top of the normal curve' lenses in any lineup, that is why they are among the first released in any new lineup. Together, they might account for 40-50% of all prime lenses the maker sells. This would push you to think we are due for the 35/2 APO, because if they do it, it will measure up.
What is different here and makes prediction harder is: Cosina is not a mount owner; Cosina plots their own course and don't try to fill gaps; Cosina will make two or even three lenses at a favourite focal length if they have the whim to do so; Cosina serve two masters (Sony and Leica) often with the same lens.
It all leads to Cosina being entirely unpredictable in an all-too-predictable market. You can almost feel them working away on something right now. I wish for a 28 APO too, 35mm does not work for my interests, I love the scope you get at 28mm.
Failing the APO, a 28/1.4 modelled on the 21/1.4 would satisfy greatly and might be lighter too. That one stands out in a crowded field. It's very hard to find a poor image in the dedicated thread, the lens really helps the photographer a lot, and that's a big part of it all. Incredible tones in highlights..
Just got the lens today... curious to know if anyone is using the OEM hood, or have found preferable alternatives. Flare resistance seems good based on reviews, so I may skip it, I just like having sometimes for ding protection. Might fit a step up filter and larger UV (like 49 to 58) instead. Thanks!
'Another area of general strength is flare resistance, as I didn’t find much to concern me in any of the scenarios I shot in. Even video pans across the sun showed minimal ghosting (discolored blobs of color) or veiling (loss of contrast). It’s hard to picture anything negative in stills'

But I actually buy screw-in metal hoods if a lens comes without one, strange I know, but they spread the imposed load of bumps more evenly across the threads. Many hate them and go for small foldable rubber hoods, but lots of scrambling around iffy surfaces, rocks, in/out of jeeps - nope. And for short portraits, most important is small frontal area (what the subject sees), much more so than overall length.
They took the time to get the exact hood length right, like they did on the Loxia 85 as well, for doco 'no sun in picture' imagery. While out of fashion, the longer hoods protect the high contrast, and the lens is so short it still fits inside my AW bag very well. Try both maybe, see what works for you?
yes, I use the built in metal screw in hood. I like it. The hood provides protection and flare coverage.
You can use a filter between the lens and hood.
When you turn the hood the filter turns (such as polarizer)

I use a step-up-adapter 49->52 combined with a small 52mm metal hood from B+W to have the same filter size as my Loxia lenses. It works for me.

cwnckn, your LARGE images makes it VERY difficult to load the pages. You should get the A7S!
Whoops, sorry! I have a fairly large monitor at home and never realised the forum software did not scale them dynamically. I'll export them to a smaller width from now on. Other than that, they are lossily compressed with JPEGMini to about a third of the standard JPEG size.

Your giant files are ruining this thread
My browser crashed 5 times typing that
Then don't type that
I removed them so you can enjoy a crash-free FM experience. Customers always come first
If your browser is old, you may want to try a newer version. Having loaded the thread with Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Brave without any problems I'd dare guess the problem is not related to the geometry of the pictures but rather to how the browser resizes the canvas while loading them.
I'm still running Mosaic and don't appreciate all of you posting images > 100KB... recently upgraded my modem from a 14.4 to a 28.8 and didn't really help.
