Thanks Vivek - looks like this could be a great choice - I saw your earlier posts just being careful as some great lenses (eg Loxia 21 f3.5) are fine in mono but don’t work so well in IR color. Very few E mount lenses excel in both regular and IR light - but this one looks like winner (80%+ of my work is IR)
I received my copy yesterday. It seems very sharp from the images that I have taken. However, every so often I am getting an error message `setting/manual focus`on my A7R3. Then the MF magnifier and focus peaking do not work. If I turn the manual focus ring a few times, it eventually starts to work again. It is not happening all the time but when it does its annoying, as I am relying only on what I can see through the EVF. I cannot find any setting that might be causing it. Has anyone else experienced this?
Yes, I get exactly the same message and have assumed that it is due to some setting (like did I remember to set focus mode to manual?) - but I have not taken the time to get to the bottom of it yet...
AFAIK, this behavior is completely abnormal. Check with whomever you bought the lens from for a possible replacement.
Out of curiosity, was it from the latest batch?

Thanks for the replies. My lens was delivered by Robert White & Co, UK only last week. I think it was from a delivery they received about three weeks ago, so I t must be a fairly recent batch. I’ve talked to the dealer and they’ will try to replicate the problem. In the meantime I am upgrading the firmware on the camera to version 3.1 to see if that makes any difference. They suggested that it might.

I've been using this lens for a couple months now and have never seen this issue. It could be electronic.
Believe there is a whole thread dedicated to this question - just do a search.
I don't have the 50mm Nokton but the rendering and resolution from the 40mm Nokton is very similar
Both are terrific lenses but with different purposes. The Nokton by virtue of having an F1.2 aperture is more flexible for low light and has smoother/dreamier rendering at the expense of CA and softness especially below F1.6 and at close focus distance.
The 50 APO has incredible colour accuracy and sharpness
Got to take this awesome lens to death valley and was super lucky with incredible weather. As I was chasing down dramatic weather formations I came across one waiting patiently....it paid off! Really love how this image came out!
