Anyone try this out with F5/F6 film bodies?

The Tamron is a stellar lens that I use with my d850 and d750 bodies. I also have two F6 bodies and tried the Tamron on them. Unfortunately, the F6 cannot control the aperture of this lens and the lens always shoots wide-open on the F6. You can use the Tamron 35 1.4 on the F6 wide open -- just make sure to set the aperture setting to f1.4 on the camera to get correct exposures.

Alexander,

I believe you use both the Tamron 35 1.4 and the Nikon 28 1.4? Care to elaborate on how these compare for differ for your style of work?

I have the 28 1.4 now and love this lens on the Z7II and had the Tamron 35 1.4 when I used DSLRs. Thinking about adding a copy back in for the mirrorless. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Anybody using one of these on the Z line? Wanted to know if there were any firmware nits. I know Tamron had some issues early on with Z cameras.

Also, how is the AF on say a Z6 or Z7? I recall the AF on this lens was quite good but did have the usual tuning issues with the DSLR system.

The Tamron 35 1.4 actually represents to me the best balance of "painterly, artsy, rendering" while meeting "plenty sharp" capability" and avoids some of the ultra sharp but clinical looking tendencies of other lenses being introduced.

I have the 28 1.4 now and love this lens on the Z7II and had the Tamron 35 1.5 when I used DSLRs. Thinking about adding a copy back in for the mirrorless. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

All my activity in photography has its roots in the simple interest of a technician in gadgets. Out of such interest , Tamron 35 /1.4 was bought instead of Sigma 35 art . to my surprise, the tamron turned out to be a very charismatic lens with a very good technical picture, but at the same time with a wonderful rendering, a lively and not sterile picture. He was very accurate on the d850 and when I switched to the I system, I decided that for the first time I would leave these 35 mm, until the appearance of the same charismatic Nikon z 35 mm, whether it is /1.4 or / 1.2 or maybe / 2, but necessarily with a recognizable pattern. 35/1,8s frankly disappointed me with its simple, sterile pattern, without a single hint of individuality. But as soon as I thought that I had found the perfect lens to pair with my 105 /1.4, Nikon announced its withdrawal from Russia, supporting stupid sanctions, which led to a global sale at which I bought 28 /1.4E for a ridiculous $500. Of course, I had previously looked at this glass, tried to justify its price, but it was too high for me (I practically do not earn by photography). And then such luck! and now, after a year and a half of use, I can say that the 28 /1,4E fully recovers its value, demonstrating a unique work in the contour light, perfect sharpness, rendering and branded color reproduction. I use it where I want to convey more air in the frame or where 35 mm is too narrow. These 2 glasses with a close focal length give a very different picture, a different perspective, very different rendering in the blur zones, different speed in general. I couldn't definitely choose which one to keep and which one to sell. Perhaps having waited for the z 35 /1,2, I will sell both in his favor, or maybe I will also be disappointed with him as 85 /1,2 and will continue to shoot for this pair of wonderful 28 /1,4e and 35 /1,4

Well I am not shooting such beauties as you but appreciate the finer nuances of the lenses you mentioned. The 35 1.4 would be a bit chunky at the end of the FTZ adapter, but I remember well its charms on the D810 and D850. The 28E is my favorite. This lens in close at 1.4 is simply some of the best shooting I can get from any lens. Thx for the reply.

I am seriously considering this as my 1 manual focus walk about lens:

Firstly I do appreciate the quality and number of images you have shared with us, I really do.

Secondly I really do not want to be political on a forum like this. But those "stupid" sanctions, as you call them, have been put in place because your president chose to start a war with another country under false pretence. I also understand that that same president has made it illegal to criticise the war and is indeed putting people in jail for doing so. So I do not expect a lot of Russians to post negative comments about the war, but to say the sanctions are stupid is a bit strong in my book.

Again, I apologise for commenting on politics on this forum but I think this is too important to let it slide.

Keep shooting photos and posting them though.

Sanctions are "stupid" because they have nil effect on the war. This in not a political statement. It's a fact.

I owned the Zeiss ZF.2 35/2 for twelve years. I sold it around one month ago.
It's a pretty good lens in terms of character: pictures of not so distant subjects, taken at the wider apertures, are very nice, with beautiful bokeh thanks to the lack of aspherical elements. However, the lens was not equally impressive when shooting landscapes and cityscapes at intermediate apertures. I mean, my reference landscape lenses are (in order) the Voigtlander 50/2 Apo Lanthar, the Zeiss ZF.2 135/2 Apo Sonnar and the Zeiss 100/2 Makro Planar. The ZF.2 35/2 could not equal the quality of those three lenses. I might surprise you, but the Nikkor Z 24-70/4 S was not that worse for landscapes ... I still own the ZF.2 21/2.8, but I find it annoying for its size & weight on my Z6+FTZ.
According to what I have seen in reviews and pictures posted in the web, I think that the ZF.2 28/2 Distagon could be preferable to the 35/2, if you like the wider angle of view. It suffers from a slightly larger field curvature at the wider apertures, but it should be sharper for landscapes (also in agreement with MTF plots). It's very difficult to find a good sample in the second hand market. This tells a lot on the quality of that 28 mm lens ...

we should all strive to refrain from making these kinds of statements. strong opinions on brand wars is already making this forum less desirable, and this would make it worse.

you have no idea how deeply you are mistaken, being thousands of kilometers away from the scene of events and knowing only what you are allowed to know.
I'm only here for the sake photo and I'm going to discuss only it.

whether i'm misinformed or not or what i think of it in general is irrelevant; all i'm saying is we should refrain from making statements/opinions that's not related to photography because it never ends well for everyone.

Meanwhile, back on topic.....

The Tamron is great but on an adapted Z7II it will be a bit front heavy which is a mild irritant for a walk about lens. This video

convinced me to go with the Zeiss, especially since I have wanted a Zeiss for some time. His comments at 6:05 on nailed it for me. Also, this lens is 10 oz less than the Tamron. And I wanted a manual focus for this application. I know the Tamron is the better lens but for what I want it for this Zeiss is a perfect selection, balancing character and resolution. I hear the knocks about aperture and distance but I am not doing landscapes anyway and can use my 28 1.4 for that if needed.
