I've had both and can assure you the 35 Tammy is better then the Sig 40, that's picky on fine focus
and CA issues
I have the Sigma 40 Art; got it fine-tuned under warranty at a factory authorized Sigma dealer local to me. The AF is crazy accurate and it produces incredible files (CA?, what CA?!?).

Why did you need Sigma to fine tune it? Could you have just used/bought the Sigma dock?
I owned my Sigma 35 Art for 4 years before finally getting the Sigma dock. As soon as I used it I found there was a firmware update for a soft focus issue on another Nikon body. Anyway the lens performs even better on my D850 than it did on my D800E.
My point? If you're going to go with Sigma lenses you might want to consider getting the dock for fine tuning and firmware updates.

My two cents.
The particular place where I take the lens honors the Sigma warranty and provides AF tuning free of charge. I do that rather than spend $ on the dock that I don't have a need for. Though I understand many people might not have this benefit so in those cases I would absolutely recommend the dock.

Fair point.... if you get it done under "warranty". For those out of warranty (me) and Sigma having the ability to charge for service (even if you live next door)… well it may not be so simple or cheap. That's also my point
I took this same composition with a Zeiss 35mm f/2 and thought is was sharp till the Tamron 35 1.4, hand it to modern technology _DAD3323 2nd Crop by Daniel Danrich, on Flickr
After much thought and studying the options, in the person of Nikon 35 /1.4 g and 28 /1.4 E, I bought a Tamron 35 /1.4 as a kit for the d850. I am very satisfied with this lens - quite fast, very sharp with a beautiful bokeh
Sometimes I think this is the 35mm lens to have for the long haul with the Nikon ecosystem. I can only imagine that the faster Z version will be a 35mm 1.2 behemoth and 1.4 was already plenty fast in the past and still is in the present.
I have the 35 1.8s because it's quiet for video, but for stills I still prefer the tamron, and I'm afraid Nikon is going to go straight to a 1.2 the size of the 50mm 1.2s. I guess I can only hope that in the future Tamron will update this lens to a mirrorless mount.
