Well I actually took the plunge and bought the lens today. The Sony store here in Bangkok got all of their stock on Saturday, but I purchased their last unit. Sold out in three days. I wonder if there is varying demand by locale.
In any case, two from today, and I'll happily take all of the critique you care to dish out:

That second pic has such a nice 3D pop look to it.
Yes the lens does quite a nice job in that aspect. Although I think the scene here also helps with the sheen from the wet pavement creating contrast with the subject. Loving the lens so far, and am happy with the purchase.
Shots from this morning. Other than the bees which I cropped to a little over 100% and stopped down some, all shots were wide open with EFCS turned off. The more I shoot with this lens the more the busy bokeh discussion becomes a non-issue. I actually really enjoy the bokeh in the yellow flower shots. What do you all think? I know this thing is SHARP! On the purple/blue flowers I chose a Capture One color profile fyi.

Some nice clear shots in there! My heavier weight lenses are getting a bit more rest these days with the convenience and quality of this lens, that’s for sure. It’s a multitasker.

That’s a great way of labeling this lens, a “multitasker”. It’s a very capable lens for a variety of applications.
Pulled out the old A7S that I am still unable to sell - I just love using it and still love that sensor. As I had hoped, this lens plays very well with that camera with extremely responsive focus in AF-C mode considering the camera only uses contrast-based AF.

I ended up returning this lens and buying a 24-105 again. Nothing wrong with the 35 but I just felt that 24-105 is more practical for my upcoming vacation. Between 24-105 and 85/1.8, I should have all my travel needs covered for now. I will eventually add this lens again later because it is awesome.
