Well, I still can’t figure out if my RIV and 200-600 have focus issues, or just require supreme technique and settings due to the 60MP sensor. When I execute shots with proper technique and exposure, the results are spectacular, even at high ISO (noise is a non-issue with a good exposure IMO).
Aaaaanyway, had a chance to rent the 1.4x to try on the combo, and the results were spectacular with a high keeper rate, go figure! My son and I came upon an amazing gathering of 100+ birds in the Everglades, and I focused on this pair of Great Egrets, who appeared to be engaged in a territorial or mating dance, as they would jump and flitter up 10-15' in the air, yelling and flapping their wings - it was pretty fun to watch.
Sony a7RIV, FE 200-600 lens and 1.4X tele, 840mm, 1/3200, f9, ISO2000, Zone Focus, Hi Contin shooting.
RAW processed in C1 Pro, converted to jpg. Topaz AI denoise and sharpening applied (I still suck at downsizing these huge files so they look OK on the web)
