We did a hike in Katmai and at one point were literally surrounded by coastals, all of them ranging from 20-40 feet away. Not a one paid any attention to us after a glance to see we were no threat...all busy catching/eating fish as fast as possible and defending their catches.
Not that I'm relaxed but a bull moose way more scares me.
Forgot to say 4mp was plenty and well used

Put 45mins into the backyard after work....got these to show for it.
I think 840mm quality is excellent....1200mm is a work in progress. 840 is certainly better than 800 with the 100-400...way more consistent focus and better IQ. 1200mm is more like the 800mm on the 100-400...hit and miss...not sure if worth it over cropping the 840 shot....

Went out with the A7R3 today. After changing settings a couple of times, I was quite pleased with the A/F results. I turned the AF Tracking Sens from 3 to 1. I also turned off Steady Shot.

I adjusted the section on the lenscoat yesterday so I could see the focal length graduations after a number of my shots were in the 300+mm range. Had to crop shots like the wood stork above and shouldn't have needed to. It wasn't that close. First outing also so I'll count that for something as well.

Mine did get a bit heavy yesterday handholding too long. Same as with any 4+ pound lens.
It does show many positive attributes esp. with the 1.4TC use Geoff and Tony have shown.
