I’m having quite a different experience, apparently. I think that combo performs extremely well.

I bought one this morning..... an open box at my local camera store. Love it so far. Going from Nikon 200-500 when you have to twist the lens a lot to zoom, this is so much easier. And the fact that the lens does not extend with zooming is awesome.

Looking at a maple tree leaves and branches backlit in Autumn color,
Tripod mounted FE 200-600mm f5.6-6.3 G set to 452mm and A7rIII, silent shutter.
ISO 400, f11, 1/30 second.
Exposure corrected +0.12 Stops.

Duck Day
First shoot with the Sony A9 II 200-600mm. All jpegs . New version seems a bit snappier all the way around. Ergonomics are better. None of the differences are earth shattering but if you can afford it it's worth it IMHO. Battery definitely lasted longer. Will check out the faster mechanical shutter next time out.
