I have been recently interested in pushing things to extremes, in a way.
For example, shooting 200-600 with 2x TC at 1200 mm, in the APS-C mode (effective FL 1800 mm).
This is a small birdie hiding in a bush. Snow is falling - there are a few white specks in focus.
The 21MP image was slightly cropped to 18 MP.

Very nice details with that 2x tc. Being fairly close to start with helps, but certainly sharp enough. Very nice.

Very nice. I have never had much luck with the 2.0 but have only tried once and it was rented. I'll likely use the 1.4 more this spring.

This really surprised me: my 2x TC gives slightly better detail vs 1.4x TC on the 200-600.

Understandably, shooting at 1200 mm f/13 requires good light and we can reasonably expect that this should not work well on rapidly moving targets. On small perched birds, 200-600 with 2x TC works well in my limited experience. I should try this more, just for the fun of it.

Didn't you know there was a law against using such a camera to shoot birds in flight like that. You have to have an A1 to do such shooting! apparently NOT.
