Douglas L, some really great pictures here. I love the ones of the F-35 in particular. I'm going to rent a 200-600 next week-end (my longest lens is the 70-200GMii + TC1.4 currently).

Thank you. For airshows the 200-600 is the best lens IMHO. I do use the 600GM+1.4 TC sometimes to get really big closeup but the versatility of the 200-600 is very valuable.
Since you like the F-35, here is more recent F-35A or F-35C with the 200-600:

Your airshow pics are awesome and very inspiring. We get an air and water show in Chicago around the end of August. I am going to try to get there and shoot some pics. There is no way I am driving 6 hours each way with current gas prices.

Thank you! Usually I don't go that far just for airshows, especially at the current gas price. 250 miles (one way) is about my limit, I can do it in a day trip. I saw the Navy's F-35C demo team at Jones Beach New York 2 months ago and got hooked. So I went to Michigan to see them again and also wanted to see the sunset show and the night time show, never saw them before. The show in Chicago will have a very nice lineup with the Blue Angels, the F-22 and the Navy's F-35C! It's on Aug 20 and 21.
