Went to the lake to test out my new copy of the 200-600 and ran into a group of American white pelican. They fish together harmoniously like synchronized swimming. Oh and the lens looks sharp at 600mm.

My preference is to take in-flight or in-action images but I quite like this perched male falcon that gave me over the shoulder look. One of the first few images taken with the A1 using this lens, showing the crop-ability of this camera. The original format was horizontal and I cropped the heck out of the file, including some vertical aspect to see how much it would hold up and seemingly quite well...

I'm biased because Peregrines are my favourite birds but this is a beautiful shot

Check this short video out of my first attempt at capturing rainbow lorikeets - I could never get them with the a9 they are just way too fast.
So I am thinking perhaps I will get a few in focus images with the a1.
Some quick stats.
a1+200-600
Wide focus area
AF-C Priority set to AF (so in focus shutter release only)
Poor light so auto iso maxed out at 6400
Default on other settings
Sequence duration 1.5 seconds
44 frames captures with 1 where the birds head is out of focus and one skipped frame so basically 30fps
This is completely crazy and the 200-600 obviously has no trouble keeping up.
And a few of the images, not quite a9 in terms of noise but plenty good enough give the af.

Excellent test! It's amazing how the A1 keeps up. Looking at your sequence of processed photos at the end of the video, it's interesting to see the other subjects in the photos coming into and then going out of focus, while the bird just stays sharp.

I did not have lately as much time as I wanted to go out and shoot. The good news is that spring season is coming and slowly birds are returning here. And kiting season starts as well, but that is a different subject
