Hi Alex,
What is the smallest aperture that you are finding that the A7rIV can AF with PDAF? Can you use the 200-600mm lens with the 1.4X and 2X TCs and still have AF with PDAF?

Just based on the Sony specs it will PDAF with the 1.4TC at f/9 as Sony says f/11 for PDAF. IMO the 2xTC isn't worth it even on the lower MP A9 so I seriously doubt it would ever be worth using (vs cropping) on the 61MP of the A7RIV.
But I would also be curious how well it focuses and if it seems like it is using PDAF or CDAF.

With a noon start, I decided to shoot the whole game with the 200-600 and 24-70 on a9's today. I took the 400 2.8 GM just in case, but the light was good and even the overcast at times still had plenty of light for the lens. Overall, really happy with the performance of the a9/200-600 combo. Missed focus a few times, but not sure it was me, the lens or the body. Generally, the a9 is really solid, so could have been me or the lens.

^^^Damn. Not sure if I can wait until the a9II is available, might get a used a9 and buy the 200-600 with 1.4 extender, and sell the a9 once the a9II is acquired. Gotta sell my Nikon 500 f/4 E! The D850 and grip & extender have sold, so stuck with the old Canon 7DII and 100-400 II on this morning's shoot with Geoff. It doesn't do so well on these darker days.

Hi Colin,

Below are links to the information and photo of the replacement foot:

Have any of you noticed significant focus breathing at 600mm? A friend of mine had this lens and when we shot it side by side with my Canon 600 at like 30-35ft from the subject, the framing was totally different. It almost seemed more like 500mm than 600mm, just curious if anyone else has noticed something similar.

I noticed the focal length difference right away on the first day when I compared the zoom with the GM 600mm prime lens. I would say it is more 550mm but I don’t have any device to measure that....

I was doing some testing with mine at about 35 feet and comparing it to my 400 f/4 DO II prime lens with the 1.4TC. That combo is 560mm....the 200-600 at 600mm was about identical framing so I think it is around 560-570mm even at a decent distance to subject. During that same testing the 100-400GM with 1.4TC at 560mm was not equal to the 560mm of the 400DOII so that lens is also shorter than advertised compared to the prime.
I think that is a fairly common thing among these zoom lenses.

Gotcha yeah it was hard to tell without something besides a 600 prime to compare it to to figure out what the focal length seemed to be. Definitely always present in zooms, either way this lens looks pretty incredible.

Just woke from a hard nap post 24 hours of travel.
I can't remember if this one was had in Haines or Valdez. Regardless
