I was safely in my car watching this guy face off with another horny bull.
I see idiots every year tramp into the grass from the road with their dang phones trying to get closer for their Facebook or Instagram shots, oblivious to how fast these huge creatures can run.

A flock of Canada Geese; what is everyone looking at?
Tripod mounted FE 200-600mm G with 2X TC set to 600mm (total of 1200mm) and A7rIII, silent shutter.
ISO 200, f13, 1/125 second
Exposure corrected +0.36 Stops
September 8, 2019.

Here are a couple of images I took the day I got the 200-600 last month. I am a bit slow posting anything. These were cropped from 24MP down to a bit less than 5MP. Of course they are further downsized to ~1MP to meet the image size restrictions on this site. Regardless, the lens performs well and focuses very quickly.

I am not surprised that you were shooting the bears at 840mm at least most of the time. I certainly have a healthy respect for them and their strength. I would like to give them substantial distance and have a lot of concern for how quickly they can move and out run any of us.

Rich I'll eventually get one posted that was way way closer...not my choice at all. I was working a bear in the middle of the river and one came around the corner that I was not suspecting Don't run!
Had spray so no worries.
Poof on the other hand had a massive dump of epinephrine walking along and startling two cubs less than 15 feet way and no mom to be seen. Poof hastily retreated to the road and told me no more hiking for a while! haha! These bears can surprisingly disappear in forest cover.
Don't run!
