However, I'm going to say the jury is still out on the r4+200-600.
I captured about 250 images. Of them, I felt like exactly zero of them were really as sharp as they should have been.
9 of them were good enough composition and sharpness for me to spend time editing. The ones I posted here are some of those. But, the sharpness that there is in these is only thanks to Topaz Labs... I am really hoping I can dial in my settings and technique and capture this level of sharpness straight out of the camera.
I also need to take my the lens out and just shoot some still subjects, so I can make sure that it really IS just me and my settings and not any issue with the lens itself.

That's interesting to hear and make me even happier to stick with my A9+A7RIII combo for the time being
Anyway, I think that 60MP is so much resolution that even the slightest focus imperfection get immediately much more apparent than on the much lower res A9. So even if your shots were not 100% perfectly in focus, a couple of them looks even a tad oversharpened to me (the first and the fourth in particular), but definitely more than acceptable (at least for me).

Yep, I'm not going to disagree that I might have oversharpened a bit... I figured none of these were going to be portfolio-worthy, so I didn't worry TOO much about getting the editing absolutely perfect. Not that I'm exactly a wiz at editing, either....
All that said, I'm not giving up on the r4+200-600. That was not just my first time out with the lens, it was my first time ever shooting birds. I really got into photography about 5 years ago, but it has been all about underwater photography. I am hopeful that the sharpness will improve, just from improving my settings and personal shooting skills. And if that works out, then I think I'll be pretty happy with this combo. It's wasn't TOO far off in my first time out...

Some shots from yesterday and today, most of them were shot with the 1.4 TC in APS-C mode, that's 1260mm, then heavy cropping. The A7RIV can help out here
