I have been mostly handing hold mine since I bought the 200-600 a year ago. I started to use the monopod with the Wimberley manopod head in the last two outings to see the green heron nest, I really liked it.

I shoot both ways, but mainly on a tripod. On January 2, along Black Point Wildlife Drive, Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, FL. I shot either on my tripod or when opportunity arose, I supported the lens and camera with support shooting out of the drivers window using the car as a blind.

Quite new to bird photography, and lenses longer than 50mm.
Here's a few visitors in to our backyard... a hummer, and a one-eyed finch fighting of our resident cardinal and his son.

The Swallow migration has started. While this may seem like a lot of Swallows (Barn and Tree) in another week or two there will be many, many more. One of my favorite times of year.
Time of day wasn't the best to photograph them, about 3 hours before sunset was still to harsh but still fun to try!

There’s some mighty good images in this thread. Lots of talent. You’ve convinced me! I ordered one today and hope to have it this week.
Back in my Canon days I shot with the Sigma 150-600C and loved it and later traded it for the Canon 100-400II and loved that one even more. I’m excited to get my first Sony BIG zoom and give it a go. Thanks for the great photos and inspiration.

Black-capped chikadee in larch. It sure makes a difference when you can get close. No crop here! By far the easiest bird to photograph around here, as they will let you get as close as you want. I had to take two steps back to get this little fellow at the minimum focus distance. A7iii with FE200-600. The downsize for web loses a lot - the original file shows seemingly infinite detail.
